Do Energy Saving Light bulbs (CFL) leak mercury?

I wanted know if those Energy Saving Light bulbs (CFL) leak mercury as they get older? Is there a way to test for mercury leakage?

I wanted to know because the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LA DWP) just gave out a bag with two of these light bulbs.

Yes, they do leak but since the media is promoting them, people only see one side of the picture. Where's the logic in polluting the environment with mercury to prevent global warming.

As for LA DWP sending them out, are they going to pay for your medical bills when you get exposed to mercury? Mercury causes Autism, Alzheimer's, etc. Someone's making a lot of money on this. WHAT A TOTAL SCAM!!!

Also, most people don't know the clean up procedure if one of these light bulbs break. You have to wear rubber gloves, boots, open the windows, ventilate the room, etc. If mercury falls on the carpet you have to take our that entire portion of carpet. Everything that's contaminated has to be put in bags. DO NOT PUT THE BAGS IN A REGULAR TRASH CAN, IT HAS TO BE TAKEN TO A SPECIAL FACILITY THAT DISPOSES OF THIS TYPE OF CHEMICAL. THE SAME GOES FOR THE LIGHT BULBS WHEN THEY STOP WORKING.

for occasion, the two with the comparable wattage or skill intake as 10 watts, the eco friendly emits extra mild. so the will for extra lightbulbs to loosen up a place would be shrink if eco friendly bulbs are used. yet another occasion, nevertheless that is extra severe priced, approximately 5 x greater than the generic bulb, this eco friendly can final 3 to 5 x longer , to that end the would desire to offer extra isn't needed. the two scheme is probably to apply much less skill or electrical energy that provides up co2 emissions. I merely ask your self, why each and all the fuzz with regard to the bulbs whilst aircon contraptions or coolers use extra skill and hardly that is understood-approximately? I examine that for the period of Japan, maximum opted to maintain their aircon temperatures in 28' centegrades, warding off the "artic" point of coldness, saves a variety of of electrical energy and shrink the co2 emissions.

No they do not leak Mercury. As a matter of fact since 50% of our national energy is produced from coal using these lights will lessen the amount of mercury in the environment since coal is the number 1 cause of elevated mercury.

No, they are well sealed. The bag is for returning the bulb when it burns out. The only risk is if the bulb breaks.
