Is 80 GB hard drive for laptop good enough?

I want to buy dell laptop 13.3". It is Dual Core 2, Window Vista with option for window xp downgrade, 80 GB hard drive, 3GB memory, 9 cell for about $705.

I will add music, media player, pictures, microsoft (words, excell, powerpoint, publisher), chat, internet, storage for school works, adobe photoshop 9.0 and adobe reader 7.0.

So do you think 80 GB hard drive is enough or I need larger one? Is the price is good for this laptop?

Oh, how much space that window vista and window xp take? I'm undecide which one I should install in.

Thank you

Hi, I think you will find 80GB a bit restrictive after a while. The list of your requirements will not use a lot of hard drive space but if you add video to the list then you will soon exhaust 80GB given that almost half of that will be taken up with your OS.

Using XP will not use as much of the hard drive as will Vista, but XP will soon be going out of support once Windows 7 becomes the standard.

I would prefer to see a hard drive of between 120 GB and 160 GB as a minimum.

Dell laptops are lame unless you just want to leave it on a desk all day. If you want to take it to different places, consider an IBM.

120GB dirves, dual core, dual pointing devices, shock detector built in. V good screens and can take a beating without breaking. I have had 4 IBM latops and 3 Dells and the Dells and the IBMs are way better.

About 2 months ago on my Dell D630 the motherboard fried for no apparent reason and corrupted data on the hard disk. I needed a new motherboard and a new hard disk. Fortunately, I had backed up the entire thing the day before so I didn;t lose any data and my company paid to replace the motherboard and hard disk.

If you want to know what's current;y the best of everything, try the list here - it is updated every month: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/alist/

PS Don't forget - a netbook is not the same as a laptop.

ok, difficultpersistent length has actually no longer something to do with how briskly the workstation is. Granted, an entire difficultpersistent can avert records circulate rates. yet a working laptop or workstation with a 20 gig difficultpersistent will run purely as rapid as a working laptop or workstation with a 500gig difficultpersistent, offered all the different aspects are a similar. so some distance as no rely if or no longer 80gigs is sufficient, it easily relies upon on what you will use it for. in case you intend on storing rather some Video, photos and video games on the workstation, then it ought to replenish rapidly. yet once you're in basic terms doing photos and surfing the internet, it is going to be extra suitable than sufficient.

80gb sounds good enough, if ur gunna use XP vista try some liek 160 or 250 what ever u want but you should buy an external HD for ur music and docs and pics just incase the HD fails in the notebook, i repaired this guys desktop, he had for a 1yr and the 500gb hitachi sata HD stop working, i had to order him a new one and he lost everything on that HD that failed most of it was pics he never backed up, so u should for sure buy an external, make ur external like 250 or higher, i have a 160 and have 35gb left, lots of music pics and movies on it.

    80 Gig Hard Drive

80GB is good enough for normal vista or xp operating systems. If you are having any specific graphic or music research programs then you might require a larger disc.

Your biggest space killers in that list will be music and photoshop. Even so, as long as you aren't storing videos on it, you should be ok with 80 GB. Extra space never hurts though :)

thats depends. if you are going to download movies and music, or install a load of games, or if you are going to put a bunch of pictures on your pc. i'd say no. you should find a computer with at least 120gig
