Brave New World, Dance of Death and a Matter of Life and Death?

Why no love?

Particularly aamongst the older Metalheadds, like myself, but I really see these albums get no love. And I admit, I used to be jsut as guilty.

But I have been listneing to them more of late, and I believe I was wrong.

BNW, aMoLaD, are both quite good, and IMO Dance of Death is on par with 80s Maiden.

MQ- Do you like the post 2000 Maiden albums?

MQ2- Have you actually LISTENED to theem ( as I have found many have not, and so have pre-judged em)

BQ- Favorite tracks from each album?

I have all 3 post 2000 Iron Maiden albums...They are good...they have a lot more melodic touch to their songs (they're aging gracefully) ..but these 3 albums have stuff that are nothing special from Maiden...they've lost the gallop in their songs...its more of a walk in the park (im not criticizing).

if i had to rate the 3 albums (best to worst) it would be

    -Matter of life & Death

    -Dance of Death

    -Brave New World

Also many criticise maiden saying that most of their songs sound the same...i sort of agree with that..but its not fair to be so harsh on them...they've done wonderfully for 30years...how much more do u want from them??

MQ2 : Yes i have listened to all the 3 albums

    BQ :

    Brave new world

    -The Fallen Angel

    -Blood Brothers

    Dance of Death

    -Rainmaker

    -Dance of Death

    -Paschendale

A Matter of Life and Death

    -The Longest Day

    -The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg

    -The Pilgrim

Firstly, UP THE ******* IRONS :)

Secondly, of course there's love for those albums! (: We love Iron Maiden and hence will always be there to support them =)

It's true a lot of people don't like the post 2000 albums but man, I've always loved 'em. In my opinion AMOLAD is the least kickass one of the three, but that doesn't mean it's bad at all! :) It's still fantastic! Iron Maiden are an amazing talented band and should get credit for everything they've done =D . Steve, Dave, Bruce, Adrian, Nicko & Janick ♥

Here are my three favourite songs:

    Brave New World:

    - Blood Brothers

    - Brave New World

    - The Thin Line Between Love And Hate

    Dance Of Death:

    - Rainmaker

    - Dance Of Death

    - Journeyman

A Matter Of Life And Death:

    - These Colours Don't Run

    - Brighter Than A Thousand Suns

    - The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg

    Long live Iron Maiden (:

I love these albums! Dance of Death is my 2nd favorite by Maiden. I can hear a difference in the style of these 3 compared to their older ones- they're a little more melodic. Bruce's voice sounds different too, I guess because he's getting older, but I really like it. Plus the fact that now they have 3 guitarists just adds something extra to these albums.

    BNW:

    The Wicker Man

    Brave New World

    Blood Brothers

    The Fallen Angel

    DoD:

    Rainmaker

    Dance of Death

    New Frontier

    Paschendale

    AMoLaD:

    Different World

    These Colours Don't Run

    Brighter Than A Thousand Suns

    The Longest Day

I think they are trying to reach a new audience with their latest material. I've found that there is something for the old and new generations of Maiden fans on these albums, but the songs themselves seem to cater to the newer. Some like, some don't. Musically, I think the albums are solid, but the lyrics are found wanting. Not on par with the old Maiden. They will never be the Maiden I grew up listening to again and I'm fine with that. Change is part of life and they're not exempt. Their music has matured and that's good to hear because for the longest time there was much anger present.

    Up The Irons!!!

In My opinion, and admittedly though I love Maiden I realize I am not as big nor knowledgeable a fan of them as You re, they're just not as good as their older stuff. The way I view Maiden is that they hit their absolute peak with their first 5 or 6 albums and went steadily downhill from there, not that there later stuff can't stand up to anybody's cause it can, but it's just not up to the level of their opening salvos to me.

    My favorites though

    Brave New World-The Wicker Man

Dance Of Death-Paschendale (Which Imo, is the single finest Maiden song since the classic era)

A Matter Of Life And Death-Brighter Than A Thousand Suns

MA: Sure, Maiden's never had an album I hated. Even the Bayley albums aren't total junk.

    MA2: Sure, I own Maiden's discography

There are some great Maiden songs on those 3 albums, particularly "Dance Of Death" and "No More Lies" off "Dance Of Death". Those are some seriously good songs that get no respect. Iron Maiden are one of the bands that got me into metal, and of them, they're probably the only band I still listen to regularly.

They're good albums and I do like them, but they are not great albums and I don't love them. If you listen to the stuff on Seventh Son or Powerslave, just to name my two favourite Maiden albums, the passion is clear and the innovation is there. Maiden are messing around with formats, creating some new and exciting sounds and delving into history, philosophy and a whole ton of other stuff the ignorant never expect from Metal (Mainly because they don't listen to it!). Every guitar riff snarls with passion and Bruce is singing like his life depends on it.

The last three have been good, solid albums in the tradition of Maiden and I haven't been disappointed in a single one, but... the old spark isn't quite there, you know? Not quite so much innovation, not quite so much passion, just... Something they don't quite have as much of as they once did.

Not knocking Maiden in any way, here. They're my favourite Metal band by some distance. But their middle period stuff is their best, IMO, because it's the perfect blend of passion and polish.

They are growing on me some, also. I've had all 3 since their release, listened to them dozens of times, and always felt like they (Maiden) had lost their edge that made me love their music so much. Like they just ran out of ideas and were belching and burping out whatever came up.

But then I got the DVD Rock in Rio. After seeing and hearing some of those songs live, and hearing them with all 3 guitarists it opened up something inside of me that HAD to go back and give those albums another chance. (There's not many things in this world worse than not liking your favorite band's music)

It worked, and now I love them. Still, not as much as their first 7 albums, but certainly alot more than Fear of the Dark.

    In order, I like:

Matter of Life and Death-The Longest Day

    Brave New World-Title Track

Dance of Death-Face in the Sand
