Would this be appropriate attire for a funeral?

I'm going to my grandfather's funeral in a few days and am unsure about my dress. It's black with short sleeves and goes to just above my knees. It's not tight, but it's not loose; it's fitted. Though, I have a nice black jacket that I could wear over it. I would qualify it as modest, but I'm going to be in the middle of Utah. I really don't know what they consider appropriate.

Also, what am I suppose to wear to the visitation? I have no clue.

Thanks for the help!

I would wear/take the jacket. You can always take it off if you need to. If you think that's too formal or too much-then a sweater- a white one will do.

for the visitation- I don't know about Utah- but at least here for the midwest-I've seen it all. Jeans to Dresses. I say you have 2 choices. You could wear nice slacks and a top- sometimes viewings go into the evening and can be a bit cool, so again the jacket or sweater might be necessary.. or if you aren't comfortable wearing pants...then wearing a skirt or street dress is fine. knee length or just above.. just not pastel colors.. anything else okay- really- blues, reds, greens. It doesn't have to be black. - especially for the viewing.

I am sorry for your loss.

If you are wearing a dress that goes above the knee you should wear some kind of tights with it so it is more modest. Also definitely wear a jacket or sweater over it.

For the visitation you should still dress modestly and simply but you don't have to be as formal as the funeral.

As long as you are not showing any type of undergarments and the dress is not hiked way up high, I think the dress sounds perfect whether it be in Utah or not.

Well knowing the Slapman, I'd go with a black thong and pasties. Yes, rest his soul. I'll have to tend to all of the Slappy babbies alone now. I have a feeling though, that he might get resurected!
