A zebra dies and arrives at the Pearly Gates..........?

A Zebra dies and arrives at the Pearly Gates. As he enters, he asks St. Peter, 'I have a question that's haunted me all of my days on earth. Am I white with black stripes, or am I black with white stripes?'

St. Peter said, 'That's a question only God can answer.'

So the zebra went off in search of God.

When he found Him, the zebra asked, 'God, please - I must know. Am I white with black stripes, or am I black with white stripes?'

God simply replied 'You are what you are.'

The zebra returned to see St Peter once more, who asked him, 'Well, did God straighten out your query for you?'

The zebra looked puzzled. 'No sir, God simply said 'You are what you are.''

St. Peter smiled and said to the zebra, 'Well then, there you are. You are white with black stripes.'

The zebra asked St. Peter, 'How do you know that for certain?'

'Because,' said St. Peter, 'If you were black with white stripes, God would have said, 'You is what you is.'

It is that perception of stripes depends on their background. A zebra lying in daylit snow is white with black stripes.

A zebra at night appears black with white stripes.

After reading those 24 answers I am more than confused on this issue of black and white Zebras so I will take a bet each way on the outcome.

technically they are white with black stripes. Look at teh belly of them. They are white with the white stripes that go around them. Or, you could shave them and see. Stay away from the hind legs tho.

White with black stripes.... Look under their tummies, the stripes don't meet all the way round, and there is a gap of white!

Source(s): yeah man, I check out zebra's bellies!

    Black with white stripes.

    Because .....

if you shave off the hair, the skin is black!

Lots of black animals have white belly hair, so this is not an argument for white with black stripes.

The hairless areas on the nose and mouth are black.

If you look it up, references say black with white stripes ... and who am I to argue with references?

They are actually (Iam told) black horses with white stripes due to the fact their nuzzles and hooves are black.

Did you just watch Madagascar? lol

I prefer my zebras in pastels. I think maybe Lavendar and pale yellow stripes.
