Windows Media Player 9 series did not update after installing Service Pack 3 for Windows XP?

Yes I got a question. Before Service Pack 2, I had Windows Media Player 8. The original. Then I updated to Service Pack 2, and the Windows Media Player version upgraded to 9 series. Ever since I installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, Windows Media Player 9 series did not upgrade to Windows Media Player 10! I know I can download and install it separately at the Microsoft download center or just about anywhere. But I think it would be cool if it was part of the Service Pack 3 update. Is this common on most Computers with Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional?

Thank you!

That is normal and expected. Windows Media Player 11 (the current version as of now, and at the release of Service Pack 3) was likely not included for a variety of reasons:

    - Reduce download size

    - Less software development work

    - Avoid potential antitrust issues (esp. in the Euro market)
