Well, some suggestions...
Yo Yo Ma is definitely the most famous at the moment. Others include Steven Isserlis (English dude with curly hair), Mstislav Rostropovich (Russian genius, getting old and has mostly retired but still conducts), Peter Wispelway, Ralph Kirshbaum, and the wild man Mischa Maisky! Many of these you can look up on youtube if you like.
If you want recordings, look out for the Jacqueline Du Pre. She died from multiple sclerosis 20 years ago, but left some fabulous recordings including the defining one of Elgar cello concerto (look for the recording conducted by Barbirolli paired with Janet Baker singing Elgar's Sea Pictures).
At the end of the day it will depend on what you are looking for. There are various compilations of what Du Pre recorded and they are great as a starting point for cello music. If you are interested in the Bach suites there are many recordings including Casals, Rostropovich, Maisky, Tortelier, Yo Yo Ma, and many others.
