Magnets...what can i pull apart to find really strong ones, microwaves, what else?
They need to be quite strong. Do the large stereo speakers have strong magnets in them?

Yes, large speakers do contain powerful magnets. That was my favorite. Also consider electromagnets, perhaps taking coils from old motors (like washing machines) and the coil from that same speaker. If you can find a local surplus/junk yard, you can probably buy the junk by the pound. A junk starter motor from a car would be a good one. An auto or appliance repair shop might give you some.

The ones in hard drives that move the heads are very strong for their small size. But you can buy good ones for not much money on eBay. Search neodymium magnets. The larger ones are positively dangerous.
