How do you raise a teen aged pomeranian?

I have a darling little pomeranian named Sophie. She is full bread and i took her to be spaid a couple weeks ago. Well after her surgery, I've noticed a little bit of change in her behavior. SHe usually runs away from me, but thats only when we are playing chase in the back yard. Well after her surgery, i bend down to pet her or pick her up.... she runs off and hides in the closet or something. She seems to want a lot more of attention because a have another dog, named Brandy. I would pet Brandy and Sophie would look like she was very sad that i wasn't paying attentionto her, you know the look, tail between the legs, ears down. I'm starting to get a little worried about her because she is NEVER like this! (and i do not abuse her! i love both my dogs and would never do that to any animal) Can anyone give me some advice about how to raise a teen aged pomeranian? Thank you so much!

Has Sophie's incision fully healed and healed properly? You may want to check it to make sure it looks ok, no odor, no discharge, etc. The incision site can be very sensitive when it is healing which could be why she was running away from you when you went to pick her up. One accidental slip of your hand (or somebody at the vet clinics when they were handling her) could have hurt her and she is a little shy about it now. When you are petting Brandy she probably wants to be on the couch with you, but after being spayed, dogs aren't allowed to jump up and be too active as it can hurt them and stretch or tear the incision site. So again, she may have jumped up once and it hurt her and now instead of jumping on the couch when she sees love is being given out she cowers because she wants it but thinks it will hurt to jump on the couch.

I'd suggest you first check that her incision site looks good (this may take two people as she may be a little afraid of it). If any of it concerns you at all, take her to the vet. They will be happy to check it to make sure everything is ok. If all is good, then you need to start fixing the behavioural. Every time you pick her up, give her a treat. Sit on the ground with her and give her treats while you pet her back and her sides (places you normally grab to pick her up). Feeding treats makes the experience positive and eventually you won't need the treats. Also teach her again to jump on the couch when you are petting the other one (if you allow them on the couch normally) and praise her for getting up on her own.

    Good luck!

if you just got Brandy, Sophie just has her nore out of joint, she is jealous of the newbie on the scene. Also she remembers the surgery and ,may be afraid something like that will happen again. Try giving her some of her favorite treats, even if it is human food. See if she will come to you for that. Just have patience and give her time, she will soon be back to her old self.
