Was South Africa's Capital Name Officially Changed to Tshwane?

I had read a couple years ago that the capital name would be changed, but I never heard anything after that. Has it been changed or does "Pretoria" still exist?

No, Pretoria still exists and it remains as the executive capital of SA.

The metropolitan municipality which includes Pretoria is known as the Tswane Metropolitan Municipality and some refer to it as Tswane City.

Here is a link that clarifies, or at least gives some insight into the controversy around the name changing of Pretoria to Tswane, until the proposed name change is officially endorsed by national government, and this has yet to happen, Pretoria remains as Pretoria.

Yes Sir, the name Pretoria still exist.

Dirk - Don`t fight against some of the answers my friend. The person you are referring too, are part of the 80% populace in this country, who only have an IQ of about 97 (or lower).

They are the losers who was driven south even before Shaka`s time, by the stronger, more intelligent tribes, like the Masai. You can`t get angry with these people here Dirk - that`s why they voted for the anc - they don`t know any better...

    No brain - No pain...

Ayiza - hey my brother - Tula...you only make people shake their heads at you , my little monkey...

You must also learn to spell and for that, you need more than just st 3... you little baboon...!

Yes Ayiza, our dumb government just love squandering money (it costs money to change a name, but you probably didn't know that) on petty stuff like this. I heard the inauguration of our new president is going to cost 75 mil. (How?) Instead of doing some real good they rather play to a populist agenda which may win votes but does no good in the end.

Why does the ANC want to change all these names in any case, are they scared that they will never build anything new which they can name?

Go ahead and call me a racist again. That seems to be the standard response to critisizm in this country.

Source(s): Comparing apartheid with slavery is a bit of a leap don't you think Ayiza? Maybe you should do some reading.

    Not entirely.

That was the idea to change it.

For now its just the Metropolitan.

It is only a matter of time before it changes this country will not be held at Ransom by a minority group that feels the name should not change.

    *******

    To Dirk

Quote when I ever called you a racist.

Its been you who has called me racist.

Anyway you say the ANC never build anything its either you blind or you refuse to see what is infront of your eyes.

Look if Tshwane was build soly by you European like Austrailia was build by the whites.

But you people had your hands on your waist and you cracked a wip on cheap African slave labour.

Which means none of it would be around without Africa's hence African contributions have to be recognized and the names must be changed to reflect the will of the people.

And the fact is that area was Tshwane before the whites people arrogantly named it Pretoria.
