Compost smelling VERY bad outside? HELP!?
I have a large compost, It has been in a bin for a month and a half. Today, we made a place outside and dumped the compost out, put a large tarp over it, and put wood and stones to keep the tarp from flying off. A few minutes ago, my Dad stirred it up and THE SMELL IS AWFUL! My Mother can't stand it, my Dad can't stand it, and I can't stand it! What can I do about the smell? I have a feeling this will be a long night.

Try pouring a box of baking soda on it. I put baking soda in the waste can I use for cleaning up after the dogs and it neutralizes that oder almost immediately (summer in NV is hot too). It sounds like you must have more than just green and leafies in your compost. Oils, kitchen scraps are a big don't. Egg shells and coffee grounds, lettuce or other greens without any dressings or fats are ok. Look up a proper composting "recipe". It shouldn't smell bad, you must have something in it that shouldn't be. Don't give up, they are great once you get the hang of it.

it has not cooked properly, start again , keep it damp not wet, mix blood and bone that will start the heating process, add some dry matter in it as well, the smell is caused by bad air , once you have filled the bin, top off with a layer of lime and topsoil

Mix a little lime into it. You could also try mixing in some leaves.
