Arlen Specter now a Dem, anyone seeing this coming?
How do you think this will effect the Senate and the voting, and well the Democrates on the whole. Do you think that he will run in next election remembering that he is 76 years old.?

About as many as saw Joe Lieberman becoming an Independent after losing his primary election.
Now they can hang out together. They will be the senate's version of Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas the siamese twins of the Supreme Court.

It was actually fairly obvious
arlen Specter is an opportunist and isessentially for sale.
we bought and paid for him. the Republicans should have seen that coming for a long time.
Essentially Arlen Specter's poll numbers were so low that he would have lost the Republican Primary.
Arlen Specter was guaranteed that if he would switch sides, he would run as a member of the Democratic Party that he would run unopposed so that at least Specter would be guaranteed the Democratic nomination so that he could run in the general election.
Also Arlen Specter was promised a substantial amount of financial assistance as well.
Essentially we bought and paid for Arlen Specter.

He should have retired a few years ago. A lot of people are sick of the old ways the old monuments like Arlen. He's been back and forth and back again. He might not even remember that he did this next week lol.

He is running. Three weeks ago the weasel said he was running as a Rep because it was far too important to keep one party from having absolute power. Then his poll numbers came out and he was down 20 points.
I hope he enjoys his 30 pieces of silver.

Yes, months ago they were hollering about how bad he was doing in the polls, not sure if because of his democratic stuff or republican, but agree with most and mopar's answer. Have a great 2009!

How could anyone not see it coming ? He was trailing in the polls in his senate race in the Pennsylvania primaries, was a very liberal Republican having supported abortion and gay rights, and was one of only three Republicans who voted for Obama's stimulus which I don't believe people were happy about. God bless.

He's an old liberal dinosaur like Teddy Kennedy. They can both retire together and jump off the Chappaquiddick bridge. Mary Jo would be proud.
