  • Al Franken, finally seated, but how much do you know about him.?

Most people hear the name and remember a comedian from Saturday Night Live. They remember a man who did go on and do some political shows, but never took him seriously. But here he is, now a Senator, and the worst case is he only won by a small margin, so again, not taken seriously. How many of you know he graduated with honors from I think it was Princeton, and is extremely intelligent. The man is not stupid, not a clown. He is a force to be reckoned with, he should be taken seriously, he's on his way to Washington and he intends to stay.

  • The difference btw buying pedigree animals from breeder or store?

I was always told to never buy an animal from a store as you were more likely to get a sick pet as they were breed in animal farms. If you bought from an individual you would get a better healthier animal and the owner would back up the purchase. Don't believe it. I don't want to hear from all the people out there saying you shouldn't buy an animal, you should get one from a shelter. Animals that are bred need a home too, as they have been born and someone has to buy them, someone who can afford them, and anyway, I love Himalayan cats. But beyond that I have 3 cats and the last one was bought from a place called Christa Cats in NJ. Do not ever do business with these people, they do not back up their $800 cats. I bought a cat that I just luckily noticed by chance was sick. I thought at first it might be asthma as the cat was coughing all the time and I've had a cat with that problem. No such luck. My poor cat had been born with a number of organs including the heart and liver in a pouch, and if I hadn't caught it when I did my cat would be dead by now. I told the breeder about this, and she checked with the Vet and was told it was as serious as we had said. We spent $1000 to have surgery, and the breeder followed all of this through. I thought this was because we were getting some money back. Her comment was, we had 3 days to check the cat out and after that, too bad. Who x-rays a cat in the first 3 days. I've checked with other owners of Pedigree animals and all have been reimbursed for sick animals. I'm just pointing this out, first to keep people away from these people, but also to be careful when signing contracts for animals.. Don't give them only 3 days, cover yourself and your animal. Not everyone can spend $1000 for surgery, and who wants to fall in love with an animal and find out it's going to die in a few months.

  • Help for Christmas Dinning out?

Have friends coming in for the holidays and they will be here for Xmas. Ok, I'm Jewish and always have my family over that day, so have no idea if anything other than Chinese restaurants are open that day. These people are coming in England and won't be in NY for long and really want to go out for a nice dinner on Christmas. Ok, all you locals, can anyone help me and let me know of restaurants that are open, lunch or dinner. Should be really nice and in a moderate range, not like Per Se, but not like Viand. Thanks.

  • New Jersey - Flemingtown, where to eat?

Ok, there is no NJ section, so guess this may be the best place to list. Anyone have any ideas for a good restaurant located in Flemington. Looking for something nice, not too fancy, but certainly not a hamburger joint or pizza joint.

  • looking for a good Continental Restaurant?

Ok, I'm going out to dinner with 2 other couples and to be honest I know these people on the phone but have not met them in person, so I am looking for a nice restaurant, top cost of $50 per person, and I would guess continental type restaurant, so everyone can find something they like on the menu. I'm looking in the area of Philly or out towards Doylestown. I don't think Philly is like NY when asking for a restaurant. Anything sensable would be appreciated.

  • breakfast ideas for south beach diet, 1st phase?

I've done South Beach before and had no problems, but gained some weight and need to lose it quickly, which I did last time. But I've been dieting for so long I'm sort of finding it hard to stay on a diet right now, why I put on weight. I can figure out what to do with meals for the rest of the day, but breakfast is getting to me. It's basically eggs of all different types and some time lox or tuna salad. After phase 1, it's not so hard as there are breakfast bars and egg wraps, but on phase you are just so limited. Does anyone have any help on what to eat. I know there are a lot of people on the diet out there.

  • Restaurant for a nice evening out,is it that good?

Ok, I admit that being disabled I spend too much time at home and watch some shows that I wonder "why?", but I have become addicted to the Gordon Ramsey show on BBC where he takes a week to clean up a totally horrible restaurant and make it wonerful. In one of his restaurants in London he quickly was awarded 3 Michilan (SP) stars immediately. I find out now he has 3 expensive restaurants in NYC. Wondering if anyone has been there, and are they that good, and as I'm going to London, are the restaurants worth the 3 stars as I believe there are only 4 as the top. I do love to listen to him swear on his show all the time.

  • Who's responsibility for cost when working with an architect?

wondering what others felt about covering the cost of materials when an architect orders expensive slate for your bathroom, without showing it to you and you hate it and it has to be replaced. I don't feel I'm responsible for the first slate as I never saw it, and to my eye it doesn't match anything in the room.

  • The Ivy, why the attraction?

I keep reading notes about people trying to get into the Ivy, so I have to assume that it is still open. I ate there about 4 or so years ago and was not really impressed with the place. Ok, I'm an American and I guess our food is different from British food, but I would just like to know from a true Brit what is it that makes the restaurant so popular, is it the food or the name. I found the food rather bland, is that what you enjoy, please understand, I am not putting you down in anyway, I went through contortions to get that reservation, and I did have some marvoulous meals, especially Indian while in England. But I just want to understand the attraction of the Ivy. Thanks so much

  • The Berkshires - Somewhere totally different to eat?

Ever have one of those nights when you want to go out to eat, but you just don't know where you want to go. the Berkshires is is small area and we all seem to know all the restaurants, and tell the visitors all the same restaurants. But for a different night, for food, entertainment, new friends and just a good time why not try the Dreamaway Lodge, right now only open on weekends, until season at Jacob's pillow starts again. It's not just a restaurant, you can sit around in the different rooms and make friends, listen to live folk and jazz music, Different rooms for different things. A great fire pit to sit by and get warm. Hasn't it been a long time since you tried something totally different, don't you deserve it.

  • New Sex in the City Movie?

Opinions about the new movie that is apparently been given the green light. All 4 Stars will be in the new movie. How do you feel about a new movie being made. Personally, I loved the way the show ended, everyone was with who they belonged with and all was well in NY. What kind of trouble are they going to get into now? I don't want to see any of the relationships end or have problems. So, how do you fell about the new movie?

  • The 4400, the TV show?

Just rented the first 2 discs of the series from Netflix, and am wondering a few things about the series. Ok, I know I watched it when it first started way back, but sort of stopped due to the fact that I couldn't keep track of when it was on, but now have a TIVo. But, what season is on TV now, and how do I find back years that are not on Neftlix, Thanks for your help. And any other information

  • American showing of BBC HEX?

What over here they are calling the second half of the program, which apparently was 3 parts originally has just started on BBC. However, it has started with 3 segments missing. I watched the show from a DVD and not on TV, so I don't know if those 3 segments were on the original first part shown over here, and wondering if there is any place to download those missing episodes, it doesn't have to be free, I don't mind paying to get what I am missing, but it isn't on iTunes and don't know where else to turn. Thanks

  • Highlander movie, the newest to be released?

being a big fan, I have followed a lot of streams of information as to the release date for the one that is supposed to be released.

  • Fred Thompson, why do people find him a?

viable candidate for President. I understand that he is a lawyer and has been in politics, but why do I see a number of people saying he is the best candidate for President. Is it based on him, he really has no record other than being against Nixon in the Watergate proceedings, or is it due to the image he plays on TV. How much do you really know about him as a politician.

  • British TV show Black Books?

Ok, I've been told by a friend that this is a must see show. I just don't get it. Is it something that you have to be British to understand. Are we Americans just not going to get it, even if we are solid BritCom fans? I just don't find it funny.
