Is it really worth asking questions here?
Is it really worth asking questions on this site. You may get one or two good answers, but really, there are some maniacs that reply. It's actually quite scary when you think about the answers some people give and how it can really affect those asking a question.
And if you notice, the maniacs are some of the people that are the highest contributors! Makes you wonder.
So.......is it worth it :)
Some good answers guys! Does that make my question useless. Waiting for more.......
Obviously all the informative and NICE people answered this question. Well done everyone, nice to know you guys are really there waiting to answer :)
I think weeeeeeeee was just trying to validate my point.

I think it is worth it, I agree that there are some weirdo's who answer just for the sake of getting the points and I think if you are prepared for the backlash or critique from some and can just brush aside those comments and take what you want from the advice from others, then its worth it.
I asked a question recently, and got some quite critical answers back from "top contributors", but take it with a grain of salt, because there are some otherwise useful tips and comments that are worth reading.. plus I think these forums are a little addictive, and I love to see what other people are going through when I think my DS is behaving badly, that most of the time there are so many people out there with worse problems than mine, which somehow validates my concerns, or at least makes me feel better in that I am not alone!
Good luck!

I think it is worth it if you ask your question understanding that people can type anything. They can type the truth, they can lie, they can think they are right but be wrong.... and they can be downright mean!
But, USUALLY, they have good intention and provided you don't blindly follow the advice you are given then I think you can come away with some very valuable information.
Then to add into the mix that many people (like myself) like to ask more "fun" type questions... well, then it doesn't really matter what people answer. It is all about hearing other's opinions, experiences and just well, getting to a know a few people. Of course, there will still be rude people and those that are just downright cruel... but again, as long as you come on here knowing that those people aren't worth listening to then yeah.... it's worth it

I think it's great to get different people's experience from all over the world. For instance sometimes a Dr will say something isn't known to cause a certain symptom but then you ask a bunch of people if they experienced it and they have. In a way it's more like research than an absolute answer. Anyone that takes the word of one person as absolute fact without research is kind of a moron anyways..

I like to think I have something to offer! I am an RN and a Mum and try to put thought into how I answer a question and if I can provide any helpful ideas to other Mum's. Yes there are some real nut-balls on here as well but every time I've asked a question, I've gotten at least 3 helpful answers.

try another section. people are way more judgmental. I make it a point not to ask anything serious that I would normally ask my pediatrician...I ask for personal experiences rather than sound medical advice. but a lot of people ask serious things - like 'what should I do about my son's 105 temperature?'
and it's like, seriously? there's no hope really. oh well. such is life in an open forum.
eta: and I think a lot of people ask questions so that they can hear what they want to hear! which defeats the purpose. but all in all, I try to answer as honestly and respectfully as I can.

I think its totally worth it just to see what different advice people give you. I usually just ignore all the rudeness and go from their. However I wouldn't go by what someone said on here if its something major that needs to be talked about threw a doctor, but if its something simple I try asking for peoples personal experiences.
Hopefully we have all helped each other out some were on here. I know alot of you mommies helped me a TON threw my pregnancy.

Actually, Yes it is,I thought the same thing when i first got on this site but after you communicate on here for a while you'll find out there's allot of good and intelligent people ready to help if they can! Don't give up and don't judge the majority by the minority!

Yes, it is. It is a source of collective knowledge. You mentally filter out answers you don't like, and don't take bad advice, and if you do, then it's a learning experience - that's not necessarily a good thing, though, but it has good aspects.
It also throws light on what people, to some extent, in general, although it's only the people who frequent this site, think.
It is good exposure to those with different cultural standpoints and different opinions than one's own.
That's just my opinion though! :)

lol Yeah, some people just answer stuff to answer it so they can get higher ratings or levels or whatever.
I think it is; I usually get some pretty good answers. I only ask if it's an opinion thing or if I can't find any information about something I've extensively Googled.
