What programs do I need to protect my computer from virus, spywares etc? What do you use(Free software)?

The following is a list of the three (3) programs i have on my pc...and they all work well together...all are free (no trial) and can be downloaded off of CNet.com/downloads.....

You can protech your computer , against virus and spyware by following these steps .

1 Download and intall the Malwarebytes on your computer .

2 Update your Malwarebytes .

3 Scan your computer for all the malwares in your computer .

4 Remove all the malwares , found while scanning with the malwarebytes .

5 Restart your computer .

Free spyware programs to download are Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, Ad-Aware 2007 and AVG. Most popular free antivirus programs are AVG Anti-Virus, Avira AntiVir , Avast etc. Check out http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-sAFtLsc8erIoh.ENhks... for more details.

I was using Spybot Search and Destroy to take care of my spyware and Avast for anti virus, but caught a bad Trojan that disabled Spybot and somehow got past Avast. I just switched to AVG Free Anti-virus. Seems to be working pretty good and has a built in spyware detector. It's free, check it out. :) Good luck.

spybot will help you out. get the 1.6.2 version, free http://www.filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_de... also , if you have windows, you have a malware removal tool , it is in the start run, type mrt, checks for malware, however, i like the malwarebytes' anti malware program, good for 60 days free. another good free thing is advanced system care at http://www.iobit.com/

I use Avast but Avira is good also. DO NOT use AVG because it has no rootkit protection (very important)

For another Malwarebytes-like program, I also use SuperAntispyware. All of these are free at download.com.

Windows Live Onecare claims to do this, however i haven't tried it as i don't trust Microsoft to build a decent security suite. I think that Bitdefender and Kaspersky have been including all those in their more recent products though. Try having a look at them.
