Can you end up in jail for using torrent sites like Pirate bay?

I have seen a lot of torrent sites giving away many expensive programs, but isn't that flat out stealing and opening yourself up to lawsuits?

technically, yes you could because it is illegal and violates copyright laws

but i honestly do not think they would prosecute individual users who downloaded content

instead they are going to go after the people who run the sites, and the people who uploaded the "illegal" content onto the site

so unless you are the owner and operator of pirate bay i wouldn't worry at all

I use the Pirates Bay site for downloading games. If you are using a Mozilla Firefox as a web browser, you can get add-ons, one such type is WOT.It shows you which all sites are good and have a good and bad reputation. You can also use the alive torrents site if you are not sure.Could you tell me what you are downloading, like movies, games, soft wares etc.Could you give me a link as an example.

If you're the one downloading the torrents, you have nothing to fear. This is because there are more than one person using this program and many other pirating programs, if they're going to arrest you, they must also arrest everyone else for the same thing, and since there are more than a few hundred thousand people using just one program, they can't arrest like millions of people...but just to be on the safe side, don't download too much lol.

Yes you can, first you will get a warning email from your internet provider ,If caught again you will be taken to court and will have to pay a hefty fine or jail time depending on how many times it has been done and how many files in question.

No. You're stupid, and probably narcissitic. If you honestly think that the MPAA, large corporations, and the government is going to waste their time coming after you for downloading a couple of movies and programs, that is just silly. They do not have the time or the money to track everyone down, and if they only tracked a few people down it would be arbitrary. They only invest their resources in bringing down host sites like pirate bay because they openly provide the hosting of and spreading of torrents and such.

The only info I can see the government coming after you for if you possess is child porn. I'm sure you have plenty of that eh?

    Theoretically- yes!

In reality- no. Could you imagine the uproar if someone was jailed? The amount of downloads alone would enable you to bring a lawsuit against 1,000,000 people! it just wouldn't work.

They are much more likely to target the websites who host such things and the uploaders of torrents.

Bear in mind, in no way am I condoning this practice!

Yes, if they track you and your ISP gives them your information. More than likely if you're caught you would just be heavily fined. If you are a huge pirate abuser then you can be looking at jail time.

Yep, it is. Using the program isn't illegal, but if you get copyrighted stuff from it, yeah, that's breaking the law. I'm not sure exactly what would happen if you got caught--maybe you'd have to pay a fine.
