Secret to earning points is to answer more questions then you ask, and also hope that you get best answer. When you answer a question you get 2 points, and if it is chosen as best answer then you get another 10 points. Asking a question wastes 5 points, well you do get 3 back if you choose best answer.

It has been said on here that when you are level 1 and trying to make the 250 points to level 2 that you go into Jokes & Riddles, Polls & Surveys its easier to amass points from those categories. I would also say that you should choose a category that you know you can answer very well and answer there so you stand even more chance of best answers.

When you do ask a question, always chose a Best Answer (after 4 hours, but before 4 days), to get 3 points back.

Never violate the Guidelines (read them, link, bottom of most pages), as that costs points.

Choose questions you can answer. Read the other answers people have already given; if you have nothing to add, don't bother.

If you're going to answer, read the whole question carefully, including all Details. Make sure you understand what they're asking. (A lot of people answer without really reading; and so don't actually help the person with their question.)

Then write clear, well-written, complete, accurate, helpful answers.

Answer your quota every day, then go to "discover" then to Vote.... Vote your quota each day (please actually READ all the answers, and vote for the one that gave the Best answer).

Just coming here each day gets you one point.

You get 2 for answering; 10 more if you get Best, plus however many thumbs up you get. Voting gives you one point per vote.

To earn more points, you must answer many questions, visit yahoo answers regularly, vote a best answer for your own question, try to get your answer voted as a 'best answer' (by giving a detailed and informative answer) ...etc.
