I worked there my senior year of high school about 4 years ago. I wasn't treated unfairly at all, but many of my coworkers and managers were really dumb.

I have two brothers who worked for Wal-Mart. I guess you can do worse, as they are constantly hounded by lawyers from watch-groups to clean up their questionable HR practices. But you could do a lot better as well. Wal-Mart turns over about half of their workforce every six months--most people get sick of being overworked without benefits or breaks. They'll also randomly fire a certain number of people every month and tell them they can reapply in a few months and come back in at the starting wage. That cuts their payroll costs. Many people are unhappy with the change to variable schedules--now you rarely have a normal shift.

The bottom line is, you work at Wal-Mart because your options are limited; they know that and act accordingly.
