Cell phones in other countries?
I'm going to China for 2 weeks this summer, and I am unsure what to do about my cellphone. I live in the U.S. & have AT&T. Can/should I switch to an international plan for a month? Should I just get a calling card? Someone told me I could order a Chinese SIM card for pretty cheap. Any info would be great. Thanks :)

1. You need to make sure your phone will work in China. This means is it a tri-band or quad-band and is it unlocked.
2. If your phone is able to be used in China, then do not get an international plan. It will cost you an arm and a leg.
3. Getting a SIM card is quite easy in China. However, it will still be expensive to make international calls back to the States.
4. If you are interested in calling the United States, I recommend using Skype on your computer. Go to Skype.com for details.
5. Calling cards are easy to purchase in China.
If you are going for two weeks, who are you wanting to keep in touch with? Another option would be to simply leave the cell phone at home. If you do bring it, then make sure your bring a CONVERTER (not just an adaptor) so that you can recharge it.
Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Using your AT&T in China will be very expensive, i suggest you get a local service (SIM and/or Phone) for China from RebelFone before you leave from US. This will help you to avoid expensive roaming from AT&T and you can call back people in US for just 25cents through their service. Try the link below:

Unless your phone company as a deal with China mobile it will not work in China. I have been told by so n so phone company that my phone would work in China but it did not.
You could get a calling card (ISP) there are several internationial ISP phone cards you can buy as well as getting a Chinese sim card you can get them for around 15 dollars. But don't use it for for international dialling, use your phone card in conjugation with it.
