Do prescription drugs for personal use need to be declared when entering Hong Kong?

I live in USA and will be traveling to Hong Kong. Several sites say that certain prescription drugs need a permit but do not if they are for personal use. When entering Hong Kong should I declare them and let them know its for personal use? or is it okay to say nothing to declare if I have my prescription?

Update:

The prescription drugs are:

HYDROCODONE /APAP 10MG/325MG TABS ( for pain )

OPANA-ER 10MG TAB ENDO PHARM ( for pain )

BENAZEPRIL/HCTZ 20/25MG TABLET ( for blood preasure )

CRESTOR 5MG TAB ( for cholesterol )

If I were you I'd play it safe and declare them all.

Why run the risk of possibly making a false declaration, the consequences of which would be very serious?

It's not worth jeopardising your trip over.

Believe me, Hong Kong border security won't take ignorance as an excuse.

I have been in and out of Hong Kong many times over the years and have never been stopped for inspection. I've not claimed personal prescription drugs, nor have the drug sniffer dogs detected them. If you are going to be in Hong Kong for an extended period of time or if you are continuing on to a destination for a long period of time that requires you to have more than two week's supply of a particular drug, then err on the side of caution and declare the item.

If your prescription is for a narcotic, then make sure you have a copy of the prescription, complete with your name, and consider having a notarized letter from your doctor. Last thing you need is complications due to medication.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

    NO,

but you need to keep them in their original prescription bottle.

Also it helps to have an official print out medical sheet with you.

They may check, never know for sure.

Some druggies try to get in by using they regular prescription bottles and if caught away they go.

China is very hard on drugs, incl pot. They execute.

Source(s): Returned recently from China and had personal meds with me. Never checked.

Since you not told us what prescription it is you better phone your nearest Chinese embassy and enquire about it.

For all we know your prescription could be a morphine or likewise derivative and could be banned or require other permits.

But as others have said you could sneak them past customs in your baggage.

Couldn't tell you; never been there.

Common sense tells me that controlled substances (hydrocone) would have to be delcared.
