They are a bunch of nay saying douche bags in the pockets of big corps.

    Were you surprised?

    I wasn't.

If anything ever changes for the better for people in this country it's done by the Dems.

I think that this regulation isn't bad unless the politicians start demanding that interest be taken down to nearly nothing.

But no matter your political affiliation you have to realize that credit card debt is unsecured debt, which means it's risky. The risk premium that the banks have to charge to cover their butts is why interest rates are so high.

If people want a line of credit they can get a HELOC or even a credit card secured with a bank CD. The interest rates on those options would be much lower.

You can't get a credit card and expect to have the same interest rate as car loans and mortgages.

That said, I hope (I'm not familiar with this piece of legislation) that it kills universal default, wherein a credit card issuer can jack up rates and minimum payment percentages because of an old missed payment on a loan completely unrelated to the card issuer. That is an unfair rule.

But I can't accept the people swamped in credit card as victims. There is only one reason I think people are justified in using credit cards as long-term debt instruments, and that's when medical payments are involved. And even then they should only be a last resort.

The roads have potholes. The education system doesn't teach students, it just babysits. The food I eat is only safe depending on who you ask. (I love red meat) I don't ride in airplanes, but those are safe because of flying dutchmen, not the American government. Technically, it could kill you, but I'll give you that it's cleaner than the Detroit River with how many companies in Michigan contaminate The real problem with just concentrating on making regulations is that they don't get enforced. For example, Michigan has consumer protection laws regarding pricing. You can go into just about any store in Michigan and find that they are in violation of these regulations. I suppose the same could be said for off-shore oil rigs. Now, why are the regulations on corporations not enforced while living citizens get arrested for possession?

It appears that 257 Democrats voted Yes while only 1 Democrat voted No.

105 Republicans voted Yes while 69 voted No.

It looks like the Democrats are less likely to cross partisan lines than the Republicans.

That must be embarrassing but I won't rub it in. Just please check your facts next time so you can appear to know what you're talking about.

Your information is wrong. 105 Republicans voted for it, 69 Republicans voted against, and 1 Democrat against (and 251 for):

A majority of Republicans supported it, this bill did pass with bipartisan support.

Because the needs of their pockets out weigh the needs of the people. Not just in this, but in all things.

Simple answer. Lobbyists, and corporatism STILL rule the GOP.

Because they still haven't learned to appreciate the people that voted them and pay for their health care. The needs of the people aren't their priority.

    Apples and oranges.

Most Republicans including George W Bush and John McCain were asking for tighter regulations on the subprime mortgages that eventually caused the meltdown.

But just because those particular politicians were right about wanting those regulations doesn't make every politician who wants other regulations right. Most Democrats were wrong then and are likely wrong now.

We don't need Barney Frank and Chris Dodd causing another meltdown.
