Let It Be v. Let It Be?

The Replacements' album "Let It Be"

or

The Beatles' album "Let It Be"

Which is the superior "Let It Be?"

and why, in your opinion, is this so?

Update:

to clarify - they are both completely original compositions by two separate, and arguably equally influential bands.

Some tracks from both:

Repacements

"I Will Dare"

"Androgynous"

Beatles

I used to be a big Beatles fan when I was younger, but I discovered the Replacements a while back and just thought that they were musically superior.

So, I'll say The Replacements - Let It Be, it's underrated, as anything by the Beatles is overrated.

  • The Beatles' Let it Be. Simply because it's a great album that I prefer over the Replacements' Let It Be. I think the Replacements' Let It Be is all right, but isn't anywhere near as great as this Beatles' album. Not only am I deciding this by the tracks on the two albums, but also by the circumstances they were recorded under. Which isn't always taken into consideration. The Beatles weren't facing the best of times in their band years when this was recorded, but they didn't let their feelings for one another wholly impact the album in a negative way or any in my thoughts at all. They could have just forgotten it all and just left us with Abbey Road, which would have seemed a bit strange to end it all with. It just doesn't fit as well to me as a farewell like Let It Be, more like a we'll see you again in a few months kind of album. The thing is they didn't, which was very respectable of them. They put their music before their quarrels. Their differences and wants to go down their own roads and just let it all be made the album something great. It was the last studio album they left us with and was a great way to close up the best band in history. Which is exactly why it is superior in my opinion.

My love for the Beatles is well documented and my respect for them beyond measure.. I thought this was an excellent question and one deserving of the terrific responses you have received... like has been said... its very difficult to rank another album against anything the beatles did.. the Beatles usually win by glint of their total contribution to music and frankly each album has much to recommend it by..

having said this.. I'm going to pick The Replacement's Album..

mentally imagining the thousands of albums that I love laid out I know I would place The Mats' album higher on that list... it just has to do with getting a copy of the record as a young boy and really connecting with some of the songs.. I Will Dare,Unsatisfied,Sixteen Blue and Androgynous were major faves.. all that and a Kiss cover? how do you beat that??

  • I just had a listen to the replacements and I must say that they're both equally good in their own rite. I guess it would depend on the mood your in on what you want to listen to.

Beatles~ Classic Rock music pretty much everyone has heard of them. They're more smooth almost mellow vibe. Very put together.

    I like the beatles.

Replacements~ They've been around for a while as well but, they have a different sound all together alternative/punk kind of sound. More raw sounding. They seem to be more of go with the flow unrehearsed. Shooting from the hip kinda vibe. They're ok as well.

I'm into both of them a nice little mix of both sounds. Take care.

    The Beatles' LET IT BE

I'd say that the Beatles' album is superior. To be fair, I've NEVER heard a song by the Replacements but, really--it's the Beatles! Look at how much they did for music as a whole--not just rock!

Well, I own both albums but, The Beatles are the most influential band in history so I'm gonna go with John, Paul, George and Ringo. I love The Replacements though. : )

Honestly, Let It Be by The Relpacements. In My opinion Let It Be is the weakest post 66 Beatles album.

I prefer The Beatles by a WIIIIDE margin overall, but The Replacements win here. It's their best album vs. one of The Beatles' least memorable.

Despite my Beatles bashing I do love their music and Let It Be is one of my favorite albums. I would describe it as sounding fresh, spontaneous and haunting. Its an album I've listened to possibly hundreds of times throughout my life yet still long to hear from time to time. That is why it is superior.
