Desk Organizing Help?

Okay so Im organizing my room and the hardest part is my desk. I need to know how to make it functional because my mom won't buy me a new one.

It is pretty small, with a file folder sized drawer (but i have no papers or anything to file) and one smaller drawer. There are three very small shelves built into the desk underneath the flat surface on either side (about 5 inches high and 5 inches wide) and a 2 foot high 5 inch wide shelf at floor level, also built into the desk. I also have a printer table to the side with one small shelf below it (floor level)

Right now the only thing on top is my laptop and piles of random stuff, some which belongs and most which really doesn't!

Any help would be much appreciated, and I will pick a best answer!

THANKS!

It's pretty hard to tell you how to organize your desk when we don't know WHAT you need to organize. Do you have tons of CDs that need storage? Papers? Computer games? Knick knacks?

Anyway, start by going through everything and tossing out anything that you don't need. Then sort things into categories, such as pens and pencils, games, music, school work, magazines, etc. Pens and pencils go in the small drawer -- but test each pen to make sure it works before you put it away. Things like erasers, paper clips, note pads and such also go in the small drawer.

The bigger things will need to go into the file drawer and if you can't buy some containers that fit, you'll just have to pile things inside and paw through it all when you need to find something. File drawers aren't good for much other than filing!

It sounds as if the small shelves are made to hold CDs so that's what shoud go there.

Try to keep everything neat and tidy and organized by catagory. Good luck!

Keep your extra paper and notebooks in the drawer for files. Keep your pencils and pens in the small drawer with your ruler, compass, protractor, printer ink, or other small things. Texts might fit in the 5x5 shelves. Your empty book bag would probably fit your 2'x5" floor shelf, folded. Your printer paper fit under the printer at floor level?

Whatever those piles of random stuff that don't belong, find other places for, away from the desk.
