I miss your laughter, fun, and gentleness.
I miss the things I used to do for you.
I miss the time, now filled with emptiness,
When each day was a stage for something new.
I miss your love, though mine for you remains,
A passion with no outlet to the sea,
A teardrop in a desert, that contains
What's left of my maternal ecstasy.
I miss your presence, like a silent chord
That anchored even solitude in grace.
I miss, for my love's labor, the reward
Of seeing some small pleasure in your face.
All these I miss, and yet they are all here
Within my heart, far more than I can bear.

I really like anything by Edna St. Vincent Millay. And the song sung at my grandmother's funeral....it's an old Shaker hymn I believe....
'Tis a gift to be simple 'tis a gift to be free 'tis a gift to come down where we ought to be, and when we find ourselves in the place just right, shall be in the valley of love and delight"
To me instead of being sad that she was gone, it made me feel lighter, that she was in peace finally and where she needed to be. We also read many Emily Dickinson poems, which were her favorites. But you should really look up some Edna St. Vincent Millay. Not So Far As the Forest.
Hope this helps. I'm off to bed or I'd find a few for you.

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Here lies __________ _________
Hung by mistake
He was right, we was wrong
but we strung him up
and now he's gone.
Sorry,
I thought you wanted something funny to cheer you up.
I like poems by Helen Steiner Rice. They can be comforting.
