Inexpensive baby food ideas....?

My wife and I have fallen on some hard times recently. We can't afford jarred baby food for our 6 month old, so we've been giving her a lot of ramen noodles, chicken nuggets and whatever else we have coupons for. Problem is I don't want her to get bored with these foods, as she'll probably be eating them for several years to come. Any ideas on how to cheaply jazz them up?

Dude. What you do is go through a neighborhood with really nice homes. Look for the cars with car seats in them. Rear-facing car seats. Then, on trash day, you grab their trash before the dump truck takes it. Rich idiots throw away all kinds of food that normal, frugal folks would LOVE to have.

Not only will your kid be treated to a fantastic sampling of every Gerber's flavor on the market --and none of that GENERIC, STORE BRAND crap, either--but you'll find some diapers in the trash that probably aren't TOO soiled, that you can use for your own little'un. And maybe some grown up food for you and the missus, too!

I understand the economy is crap right now but in order for your baby to be healthy she needs fruits & veggies to grow correctly. Have you applied for WIC where you live? A baby cannot possibly thrive on noodles & chicken.

I do have one idea though; can you grow a garden where you live, meaning right now? I know it would take a while but then it would obviously be WAY cheaper.

  • well if she is 6 months try things like mashed potato with sausages - u can buy them quite cheap, or beans and rice with some sauce, macaroni cheese etc - just boil up some pasta and grate some cheese over the top!

There are loads of things u can make for her - try jacket potato - obviously small potatoes with tuna or cheese etc

Potatoes are very cheap and full of goodness, aswell as frozen vegetables - a great cheap meal idea is frozen vegetables with cheese grated over the top, or with some kind of sauce over it...

look it up - recipe ideas for 6 month old baby on google!

buy sweet potatoes, steam them or bake them in oven or micro , mash them up and freeze them. u can try vegetables like broccoli, beetroots, etc. store in separate jars and freeze them so that u can mix and match to give the baby different tastes. at 6 months u shouldnt be feeding her non-veg.u can also boil a potato mash it and mix in some cheese or give it to her plain boiled potato they love it.for more ideas go to www.wholesomebabyfood.com. i can understand u as i am going through the same phase. but google homemade baby recipes it will help a lot. trust me. ya , u can even boil and mash lentils or rice or even both and mix it. very healthy and cheap.. how much will they eat at one go.. even 4-5 spoonful of raw rice or lentils is enough

I think she is old enough to move on to Hot and Spicy Pork Rinds, deep fried Moon Pie sandwiches (very affordable) and chicken-fried SPAM. Oh, and put gravy on everything. This is very good for picky eaters.

I feed my 1 year old these and he is a healthy 89lbs right now.

For my baby shower someone vollunteered to make little cheese cakes for each person and we had a veggi tray with dip, it worked out very well.

homemade meals if carefully planned are much healthier and much cheaper than jarred baby food.

    try these:

mashed vegetables with a small piece of boiled chicken or meat, mix it in the food processor

    porridge with meat or chicken

    avocado with milk

you can always buy frozen vegetables and get formula milk to mix with the avocado

this is what i can think of

i just found this site i hope it helps:

    Make your own!

Puree and freeze...it's very simple! You can do this! And it's soo much cheaper. Avocado and banana can just be mashed up with a fork and given straight to baby.

Buy organic veggies, steam them and mash them up.

Buy organic fruit and mash that up.

6 month old shouldn't eat chicken nuggets. They are loaded in salt.

WOW...how about some SPAM to go along with it?? SPAM is nice and healthy for a 6 month old.
