Trazadone and Cymbalta....Any feedback?
I just recently was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and MDD. The Dr. gave me Cymbalta and Trazadone for sleep. She said that the Trazadone is not habit forming. I took 50mg of Trazadone and it did not help me sleep at all. I woke up at 3am and could not get back to sleep. The next night I took 100mg and though I did sleep better that night, it took me FOREVER to fall asleep..... Does this sound typical? I was taking over the counter sleep aid's before this, and they actually seem to help me sleep better than the Trazadone. Also, does anyone know if there are drug interactions with Cymbalta and regular Ibuprofen? My sister has me scared to take anything with the Cymbalta, she mentioned Serotonin Syndrome? Any feedback is appreciated.

If you are having trouble sleeping, be sure to talk to your doctor about it and don't take over the counter sleep aids or change your dose without your doctor's advice. Also, how long have you been taking these meds? Psychiatric drugs often take at least a week or two before there is any significant improvement in symptoms.
I never heard of any negative interaction between ibuprofen and Cymbalta. I used to take Cymbalta and I have taken both at the same time with no ill effects. My doctor knew I took Advil sometimes and didn't warn me against it.
Serotonin Syndrome is very rare. Very very rare. I have worked in mental health since 1987. I have read the medical records of thousands and thousands of people receiving treatment for mental illness and I have only heard of one case of Serotonin Syndrome. I think your sister is being overly cautious. It's like being worried that an airplane is going to fall on you--it could happen, but there is very little chance that it will.

I used to take Trazadone, but they just kept upping the dose and it never worked for me. But one of the guys at the home I work at takes it and it works wonders for him. So it's probably just that your body isn't going to have the same reactions to it that they had expected. I would stop taking it. No point in putting chemicals in your body if they're not even helping, right?
As for the Cymbalta, I'm pretty sure you can take ibuprofen. I've been on 120 mg 2x/day of Cymbalta for years and haven't had any problems with over the counter drugs. Since it's a newer generation of antidepressants it's not an MAOI or an SSRI (it's an SNRI) so you don't have a lot of the drug interactions associated with most other antidepressants. I take Excedrin, Aleve, and ibuprofen pretty regularly with no problems. With the serotonin syndrome, the only contraindication I could find was with St. John's Wart...So as long as you don't take it you should be fine.
If you wikipedia Cymbalta it will give you all the information you could ever want to know about it. Hope this helped!

This doesn't sound normal. I have taken Trazadone and it knocks me out . I haven't heard of serotonin syndrome, but Cymbalta does help manage your serotonin level to help with depression. You could probably find all the info on web MD or talk with your pharmacist they will be glad to go over your medication with you

When one has PTSD and you are in a stressful state even some of the heaviest drugs dont' work right away.
You have to listen to your doctor and follow the instructions and report everthing you question to who prescribed it.
WARNING: trazadone makes you gain weight, I don't like that medication, it is really old too.
CYMBALTA IS GREAT!!!
You need to get therapy for the PTSD or it will never get better, it is like having a broken leg......drugs help with the pain etc. but the physical therapy gets you strong
THE BEST THERAPY....AND IT IS OFTEN QUICK!! IS
EMDR
