1) does the taste vary? i just became a vegan and do not drink milk from cows.

2/) what kind of soy milk do you recommend/prefer? & please do not say chocolate.

3.) ALSO, what company makes great tasting soy? ( i guess this is kinda the same question to #2) haha.

thanks to everyone who answered!

Update:

also, do i need to take vitamins for all the nutrients im missing out on eating meat?

To specifically answer your questions. yes the taste does vary depending on the manufacturer, as well as any additives such as sugar and other flavoring agents. Silk is a good starter soy milk that is widely commercially available. Edensoy is also delicious.

Personally, I like almond milk (Blue Diamond brand-they make an unsweetened vanilla), hemp milk (living Harvest or Manitoba Harvest brands) and So Delicious (brand) Coconut milk-it's formulated to eat with cereal etc, so different than coconut milk in a can. There are tons of alternatives to cow's milk, so try not to limit yourself to soy. :)

The vitamin question is to examine in the face of everything else you eat. Find a naturopathic doctor and go over it with them- your health is worth it.

    Good luck :)

Soy milk tastes like the real thing minus the stench and the stickyness of real milk. It is extremely good for you as all soy products are if consumed in moderation! As far as vitamins go, you shouldn't be missing anything from the meat except for the cholesterol and the fat. It also depends on what type of vegan you are, if you are a soy cheese pizza vegan then my answer would be yes, you need to take a vitamin. If you're a fruit, veggie, beans and nuts vegan then you are getting all the vitamins you need. People weren't made to eat meat anyway, look at your teeth. You won't see dog/cat looking teeth in there...your teeth are flat meaning that you were made to eat vegetation! Good luck and congrats on going vegan. Give it a few weeks, you will feel and look great!

Almond milk is really good. It's definitely sweeter, and has a more pleasing texture than soymilk (which seems kind of gritty/grainy to me). It doesn't taste like cow's milk or soy milk, just has a faint almond taste. I think it's great in cereal, coffee and to drink on its own. I recently saw an ad for coconut milk, I think I may try that next!

cant describe the taste really, its a different taste. I say just try a bunch of milks, soy, rice, oat. Soy and rice come in plain, vanilla, and chocolate flavors. the chocolate soy is less of an awkward taste, wehn starting out - it helps to get used to soy. I never liked soy much, and liked rice a little less than that, but now I love it because I finally found one I liked. I like silk plain. rather than the sweet vanilla.

I like vitasoy and 8th continent and silk.

no you do not NEED to take vitamins.

What I did is I went vegan for a month, then got my blood checked for b12, protein, iron, omega, zinc. and so on.. and all was perfect so I dont take supplements, i'll probably get it checked again this summer (after one full year)

having too much of one nutrients is just as bad as not having enough. so you could take a multivitamin but you may be getting too much of nutrients and that could have negative effects, i suggest talking to a doctor.

I went to a new doctor recently and he did nto have my blood results or any history and just blankly told me to take fish oil.. for the omega 3's.. FISH .. when I'm vegan. but flaxseed oil is just the same. However I don't take them because i get enough omega 3s with my smart balance (vegan) maragarine and so on.

    Good luck!

1.Yes, the taste does vary depending on brand.

2.I recommend Silk, any flavor is good.I like the vanilla.

3.I love love love Silk Soy Milk.

It's up to you.You should be able to get all the nutrients that you need.Protein, should not be an issue.Silk's milk is usually fortified with vitamin B12, so don't worry about that.

Yes the taste does vary. I personally do not like silk, I like the Horizon Organic Soy milk. Do watch the sugars in the flavored ones though. I use plain for cereals (It's kinda bland by itself) Vanilla is good for drinking, but is high in sugar.

I get my tofu from a local asian market that makes it fresh daily.

Some vegans eat very unhealthy, if you are one of them you will most likely need to take vitamins. You can find vegan friendly vitamins online or at health food stores.

I can't really describe the taste. You'll just have to try it and see if you like it. I personally like the vanilla silk soy milk. But there are a lot of different brands to choose from.

  • It's impossible to discribe the taste, so you will just have to try it. Go out and buy 1/2 a gallon of Silk SoyMilk and try it yourself. The best falvors to me are Lite Choclate, Lite Vannilla, and Very Vannilla. So yes, the taste does vary. just find a flavor you like! I dont take any vitamins and I am perfectly healthy.

  • I really dislike soy milk. It's just bad. You can get vegetarian multi's at the health food store. They're made exactly for what vitamins we miss out on.
