I got an email from myself...?
So i got an email from myself and it was the exact same email address for the purpose of this let's say
Example@aol.com
so anyway it was the exact same all caps right and everything so because i opened it and clicked on the link without thinking because i thought it was from me. I noticed it wasn't about a few seconds later and immediately closed the website before it finished loading. Right after that i started a virus scan using mcafee. just to be completely clear i was using my aol address. so i was wondering if closing the link fast and doing a virus scan was/is enough(i'll post the results of the scan when it's done). or if i need to do something else. i would also like to know what was the deal with the e-mail address it looked exactly the same?
i did one scan with my aol computer checkup and it said there wer 0 issues found... still waiting for mcafee to finish
does the full aol and/or mcafee scan also look for spyware, adware, AND malware ?

mc afee looks for heuristics.. its the characteristics of viruses/trojans/malware/spyware. So even if that virus or w/e it may have been was brand new it would still detect it no matter what. Unless it used some weird new technique which is extremely laughable for someone spamming people.

It's common for spam attacks to not only e-mail you're entire addressbook, but also your own address. Doing a virus scan should pick up something previous to you're experience. If it doesn't also try using a spyware, adware, AND malware detection program. I constantly scan using Eset NOD32 for my antivirus, Spybot Search and Destroy for my spyware, and Malwarebytes for malware. If you're anti-virus doesn't pick something up it DOES NOT mean everything is ok. Hope things work out for ya!

You should be fine but I would try a few other virus scanners like adware and other free software. Someone probably sold your email address and then someone wrote a script to change a few of the letters to upper case then sent it back in hopes of getting someone to follow through.

if you scanned your computer with the installed anti virus software.
your computer is safe so no need to worry about it.
you can scan the computer with the anti malware if you found any problem.
