24 urine test are usually to test for concentrations of subtances in the urine-not for infection or bacteria. Some examples include metanephrine and creatinine-if you have high blood pressure, it would be routine for your cardiologist to request a 24hr urine

If you have symptoms of tachycardia (fast HR) and or high BP without reason (or quite young and not obese) some doctors may want to screen you for pheochromcytoma, which is a fairly rare adrenal tumor. This tumor can exhibit signs of heart problems. This may be another reason that they are taking 24hr urine test. Other abovementioned things like kidney function would be the most likely other reason.

A 24 hour urine collection is a standard test. Some things they could be looking for are bladder and kidney function and/or signs of infection.

An endocrinologist will order the test to check your protein in your urine, or a nephrologist will order one to check your kidney functions. I work for an endo, and it's a pretty common test, so don't worry.
If you're on medication for something, they may just want to check your kidney function.

The ratio of albumin to creatinine is usually less than 2.5 mg/mmol for men and 3.5 mg/mmol for women.
* 30-300 mg of albumin in two different 24-hour urine samples is considered microalbuminuria
* More than 300 mg of albumin is considered albuminuria.
Creatinine is a breakdown product of creatine, which is an important part of muscle. Creatinine is removed from the body entirely by the kidneys. A test can be done to measures the amount of creatinine in your urine.Urine creatine (24-hour sample) values can range from 500 to 2000 mg/day. Results are highly dependent on your age and amount of lean body mass.
Another renal test is Blood urea nitrogen. Small quantity venous blood is taken to do the test.
These are the tests for renal function test. Nephrologist / Diabetologist will order for these tests.
