Help with leaking tub/shower unit...?

New house question again...

The faucet for the tub/bath unit leaks - or drips a little bit from where the faucet connects to the wall. I noticed that there is a little gap - like the faucet isn't pushed all the way to the wall.

This appears to cause water to run along the lip of the tub to the edge where it spills out on the floor. Not good.

I bought a simple splash guard and stuck it on the corner. I did not caulk it though and I'm wondering if I should - as a temporary fix in the meantime - because water is still running under it and onto the floor.

I figure I need to unscrew the screw from under the faucet and take it off. Maybe a washer is missing or something but I'm not sure what to check for.

Would appreciate any input. Thank you!

you will probably need to remove the whole tap from the wall, it probably needs plumbers tape round the thread. turn water off at the mains first though.

unscrew the faucet and apply plumbers (teflon) tape to the threads. Re-attach the faucet, and many people caulk around the faucet where it meets the tub wall.
