Yahoo messenger can't connect..?

I just downloaded yh messenger 8.1.0.402 because I'm running windows pro 2000 and the new version didn't seem to work.

After I put my user and password in the little guy wakes up then just sits there with his mouth open. Under him it reads "signing in as my username and their is a box under him that reads cancel.

My preferences are set to "no proxy's" my INTERNET provider is road runner. I obviously don't use it often but really need to get it up and running. can someone please point me in the right direction.

    Try your proxy settings again and your firewall ..... too .

    One time ,happened to me something similar.my messenger was workink but my email said cancelled. So , my mother had the idea of send me messages in my email,she did like 5 emails to me and then I open my email and start working.Try something similar with your email and messeenger.Is an idea
