You may have scripting disabled in your Internet Explorer.
To enable scripting:
Click "Tools"
Click "Internet Options."
Click "Security" tab.
Click the Internet (globe) icon
Click "Custom Level" button.
Scroll down to "Scripting."
Check (Enable) the following:
(1) Active scripting
(2) Allow paste operations via script
(3) Scripting of Java applets
Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
Note: Restart Yahoo! Messenger and you should start seeing text in your IM windows again.
Still not working ? Update software
Clean up your browser first - download ccleaner and run it through include "registry" from left hand toolbar - do not feel nervous about deleting so many files.
