I wiped my computer and reinstalled Windows XP onto my computer but now it runs slow, why is that.?
well i let my cousin onto my comp one night when i went to my high school prom and the next day it had alot of viruses. After about a week of putting up with popups and computer freezes I decided to completely wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows but now it runs slower than it ever has and I was wondering if anybody could help with my problem

It's probably drivers... Make sure you install all of your drivers after a fresh install!

You probably haven't installed all of the correct drivers, so Windows is just running with its very basic built-in drivers.
In particular, not installing the correct graphics drivers can result in VERY slow desktop performance.
Go to your motherboard manufacturer's website (or PC manufacturer, if it's a name brand PC) and download all of the Windows XP drivers for your specific motherboard.
If you have a separate graphics card and aren't using the graphics built into the motherboard, then DON'T INSTALL the graphics drivers for your motherboard, but instead go to the NVidia or ATI website (depending on whether your card is NVidia or ATi powered) and get the latest drivers from there.

Yes, you're probably seeing affects of the missing video drivers. Like everyone said, check the device manager for missing drivers.

Have you installed all the needed drivers? If not that would be the reason.
