What does the G stand for?
On the Masons Lodge there is a square and compass and the letter G. I read that the square means "square their actions by the square of virtue" and the compass means "circumscribe their desires and keep their passions within due bounds toward all mankind". Does anyone know what the G stands for?

What you read is correct as far as the symbolic meaning behind the Square and Compasses. The letter G is an addition of English speaking Lodges, it is not generally used otherwise. It holds dual metaphoric meanings and basically represents first geometry, the art and science which is paramount to the builder to design and construct an edifice. Secondly it means God, Creator and "builder" of the universe who is paramount in the hearts and minds of Freemasons in their attempt to "build" themselves as better men.

The letter "G" is displayed quite often in Masonic symbols. The initiate is told that this letter stands for "God" and for "Geometry," which the Supreme Architect of the Universe used to design the universe.

it stands for "God" or "goodness" depending on religous affiliation....i read that on ChaCha the other day, not sure if it's true
