Why do these baseball Announcers feel the need to announce the Player Of The Game before the game is even over?

Case in point. Michael Kay Announced the Player of the game in the bottom of the 8th. And what happens? Mark Teixeira ties the game with a bases loaded clearing double. This has happened a few times already & it makes the Announcers look so dumb. Wait till the game is over like they used to do.

You're so right! How many times have we seen this happen over the years? On many occasions we've all seen it back fire and the announcers indeed end up looking like a couple of bozos! The game has to end before someone is picked!

TBS, who will be broadcasting a lot of the play off games, are an anti- Yankees channel because they have connection with the Braves and the Yankees beat the Braves multiple times during the 90's. I like Ron Darling, much better than Cohen and Hernandez from SNY who are much more Mets biased than Darling. I don't like the Fox, TBS, or YES announcers at all even though I'm a Yankees fan. I like ESPN if anything.

It's a stupid thing to do, and if the yanks come back and win, Kay is going to feel REALLY stupid. It's kinda like announcing the MVP, CY young, etc before the end of the season. But yes, they probably do it more to take up time during lulls in the game.

Lol Scooter! If it's a game changing even like say the score is 2-5 and it becomes 6-5 it would be worth making them the POTG especially if they went to extras after is being 2-2. But if it's not game changing, don't bother lol.

I totally know what you mean! It's really frustrating when they do that, and then another player does something spectacular, and then they deserve to be the player of the day. I also hate it when the announcers start to wrap up the game saying, thanks to our producer, and whatever, because the team hasn't even lost yet. They still have a chance to come back!

1986 World Series Game 6 Player of the Game -- Marty Barrett.

    d'oh!

  • I agree. This just happened in the 8th recently that I was watching. Wait until the game is over because the game seriously isn't over until the last out of the 9th...or last out in overtime.

Yeah, but they probably do it just to fill in the slot with some sort of segment.

Yeah, I woudlnt do it with a close game like 3-0.

But Andy Sonnastine is still the player of the game in my opinion.

Yeah, that is not a smart thing to do considering how unreliable most closers are nowadays.

The Braves announcers do it after the game is over though, so thats the smart thing to do.

I was going to say something and that shut my mouth. They should wait until the game is over. Have a good day,
