Speech for Student Council Vice President Election?
I was thinking of running for vice president of my school's student council. However, I really don't know what to put in my speech, or how to format it, or anything. I don't really like bragging about myself, so this might be a bit hard for me to think of. Any suggestions/advice for my speech? Thanks much(:
I'm pretty sure I have good qualities for this job..I'm organized, respectful, responsible, honest, and trustworthy. I believe I will do this job justice :P
Ahh, i totally forgot the dumbest rule! our speeches have to be about a minute long..and that's it..

It depends.. if you're the kind of person that can pull off something, funny, then do it. Like my friend ran for class president last year and he did his entire speech in an irish accent and talked about the randomest things. He won. Or someone else's whole speech, which I thought was really clever, was all high school musical songs (it went something like: Come on guys, its our last year of middle school, and we're all in this together, so lets break free and start something new. etc etc, lets go guys, get your head in the game and vote for me!) haha it was better than how i described it though. other people made up songs, etc.
Even if you aren't the kind of person that can pull that off, don't do the typical "Hi I'm running for this here are three reasons why you should vote for me" thing. If you need to do a normal speech, make it a little interesting. I always tune out on those speeches, and I'm sure most people do too. When you decide on your slogan, say it at the end of your speech and have your friends in the audience jump up and shout it out with you. People will remember you more. Or start off with a story, instead of reading from a paper.
Oh! I just got an idea. I know this is probably overused but maybe you could do..
"I had a dream. That one day...(etcetera, begin the MLK speech) ..I would be your vice president!" and elaborate.
oh geez. i hope I could help:)

so don't brag about yourself. it's actually quite simple, people who brag rarely win. speak about your qualifications in organization, honesty, trustworthiness, and ability to work with others.
also, set realistic goals and visions. just for an example, don't promise free ice cream every Friday, but do say you will start a forum where students can express problems with teachers anomalously and maybe offer advice on how to deal with unreasonable teachers.
find an issue at your school that you think the student counsel can take on and speak about that.
I think you will find that one minute speeches are easy and you will want more time.

You should sing a song, do a dance or put on a skit. No one wants to hear a speech. Make it funny. Make fun of the school, teachers and administration. This is your five minutes to make an impact on the school. Do something that everyone will remember. If you go down, at least go down in flames.
