Pet Budgie is scared of apple!?

My budgie is 14 months old and i got him when he was 6 months old. He will sit on my finger and shoulder out of the cage but he is terrified of apple! Whenever I bring him a piece, he flies around the room. When I put it next to him on the top of the cage, he moves to the other end! Is there something wrong with him?

Many budgies are scared of fruits and veggies. Your budgie probably doesn't like the color or the shape of the apple. It's normal behavior. There are many other fruits and veggies you can get your budgie to try. I'd try bananas, pears, peaches, corn, carrots. Make sure to cut them up into little pieces and serve anything cooked at room temperature. New things often scare budgies, so he might react the same way with the other foods. Give him some time to get used to fruits and veggies. It can take him awhile before he starts eating them.

I don't think there is anything wrong with him, maybe its like a phobia. Try showing him it won't do any harm like placing the apple at the bottom of the cage with him and locking it so that he is forced to be with the apple but if he starts to do something dangerous, then take it out slowly. Also, eat the apple in front of him, then offer him some. by the way, for these suggestions, you should use not the whole apple but a part of it and cut it in front of him to show that this chunk is part of the apple.

No. There's nothing wrong with him other than the fact he finds apples scary. It could be the color that scares him. Have you tried offering a peeled slice? My birds also show the same reaction to objects of a certain color. Experiment.

It just takes lots of time & patience. Try to be gentle when you approach the cage, take things slowly. Imagine what it is like if someone comes up behind you when your not expecting it. It is a similar thing when you approach a cage suddenly. Try talking or whistling as you get near the cage & spend time with the bird. It will come round eventually. Not sure what you mean by wanting him to be frisky.

Many parrots are scared of fruit although i've never heard of being terrified of apples. LOL. maybe try some other fruits. we all have our preferences right? Maybe try some other veggies or fruits or whole grain bread.

    Good luck!

No he is fine..try trimming the skin off and you need to make it look like it is very good..

Also place it in his cage separate from his reg diet..like shove it between the bars ..he will start eating it..if does not he just does not like the fruit try something else..
