Looking for a nice dining experience in Philadelphia?

I will be in Center City for a conference in a few days. I'd like to take my old bosses out for dinner to show my appreciation. Can you suggest nice, but not CRAZY expensive restaurants (say, 3 people can eat for less than $150) in the area? A short cab ride from the convention center is all we'd like to do, please don't suggest Norristown or Bala Cynwyd or Plymouth Meeting.

    Dinardos Seafood Restaurant.

    2nd and Race St.

Good food reasonable prices and it's two blocks from the waterfront.

Chart House, on the water front next to the Spirit of Philadelphia.

Ruth Chris Steak House Center city.

Good answer, I forgot about Warmdaddys, on Del, Ave.

The Chart House is an excellent choice. I've had business meetings and romantic dinners at CH and have always been pleased. I don't consider CH as having the best seafood, but it's good enough. The best part of the CH is its atmosphere and panoranmic view. The food is reasonably priced, the service is good, and three of you could eat there for about $150-- maybe a tad more. Make a reservation.

Mixto Restaurant (near 12th & Pine) offers an authentic Latin-style cuisine. The food is very good, reasonably priced and served by waiters with swarthy-good looks. A party of 3 could definitely eat there for under $150. Reservation not necessary.

Jones Restaurant (7th & Chestnut) is probably the most casual of all three restaurants. It gives you great bang for your buck. For brunch, lunch or dinner, I have never had a bad meal at Jones, and I always leave wanting to come back again soon. It's a busy, bustling atmosphere, but not so much that you can't enjoy your company.

There's often a 30-minute wait, but you can make reservations, too.

If you really want to impress your bosses and do something special, then go to Chart House. If you just want to go somewhere nice and low-key w/o spending $150, then check out Jones or Mixto.

The Moshulu-- "The Mosh" is a old ship converted into a restaurant with both indoor and deck dining. The deck is very casual, and the dining room is business casual. If you're not careful, however, The Mosh can get a little pricey.

LaVeranda (Pier 3)-- A RESTAURANT GEM. The food, the service and ambiance are AWESOME. Warning: It will totally blow your budget, BUT DEFINITELY WORTH THE SPLURGE!!

    I would NOT recommend:

DiNardo's-- A restaurant that is resting on its old laurels with over-priced, mediocre food and tired, disgruntled staff. One of your earlier answers (from TQH), I think, is actually talking about The Mosh, b/c it's on the waterfront and about 2 blocks from Chart House. DiNardo's is in Olde City neighborhood-- but don't bother to look for it. Stay away! (picture of skull & crossbones here)

Warmdaddy's-- The classy Bynum brothers always serve great food with a top-notch staff. However, I don't like loud music during dinner. Since the dining room isn't big enough for all that sound, the live jazz music--although very good-- it can really assault you. PLUS, I HATE THE CURRENT LOCATION-- it's in a movie theater parking lot!! Warmdaddy's should have stayed in Olde City and sent DiNardo's to the parking lot!!

    Warmdaddy's

    1400 Columbus Blvd.

    Philadelphia, Pa 19147

If you're leaving from the Convention Center, its about 10 minutes away. You will like Warmdaddy's if you like Jazz clubs/Lounges. They have really good food, live music(usually someone from a major radio station is there), good prices, and free parking. If you want to see a menu you could go to warmdaddys.com.

A few years ago I ate at Susanna Foo's Chinese restaurant. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely suggest it to anyone who wants a nice but not overly expensive place to eat.
