Random person mowing lawn?
I just moved in to my house Feb 08. There is this boy who used to mow the lawn for the elderly lady that I bought the house from. He used to always ask if he could mow for me and I would pay him to do it but then I bought a mower of my own and mow my own grass. If my grass starts getting even a little high. This boy now comes over and just mows without asking. He doesnt ask for money. He just mows the lawn then leaves. Does anyone else think this is strange?

I do think its strange and I understand completely. When we moved to our new house our neighbor used to do that to us. I repeatedly asked her to stop and she refused. This went on for 3 YEARS!!! I finally (after asking her not to cut our lawn countless times) had to tell her I'd file a trespassing complaint if she did it again :(
She hasn't cut the grass or spoke to us ever since - I consider it a WIN/WIN situation ;)

Yeah, that's a bit odd.
There are two things it might be:
1. He could just like mowing lawns. He may be a bit of a perfectionist and just feels it's his duty to mow the lawn he's used to mowing.
2. It could be a more self-centered reason. The neighbours at our old house used to mow the tiny strip of lawn separating our driveway and their lawn because they didn't like it when their lawn looked 'neat and tidy' and ours looked 'scruffy and unkempt' (it wasn't even considered high by lawn standards) next to it... So our lawn usually looked stupid, having two heights.
Though this boy doesn't sound too self -centered as he's not doing it for money or telling you to do it so he doesn't have to, but you never know. He probably is really nice.
Anyway, maybe you should just casually stroll outside as he's coming over to mow/leaving from mowing and thank him, but then lightheartedly enquire to why he does it?
Good luck.

nah he is just being a nice kid and he must really like mowing the grass I am sure it makes him feel good about himself and helping a neighbor and he must have a great mom who taught him that helping people is nice and that doing something nice for someone is nice...if you do not want to pay him that is fine...but maybe after he does it a few times you could do something nice in return like buy him a gift certificate to the movies or McDonald's or something...if you do not want him to mow your lawn try to go about telling him nicely so he does not have his feelings hurt when he is just trying to be nice...maybe talk to him and his mom and explain to them you enjoy doing your yard work it allows you to relax and would welcome his help if he wants bt would like to mow your won lawn.. do not crush his nice kid spirit...
my boys who are 14 and 11 always go shovel for a few of our elderly or older neighbors when it snows and do not expect money they do it to be nice...and often get rewarded occasionally with a movie ticket or homemade cookies one lady made them Beautiful hand knitted scarves...but they do not expect the stuff for shoveling..just do it cause they are nice kids

That's strange, is this kid young?
I like cutting my own lawn, but my neighbor often cuts my back with his push mower & I let him use my riding to cut his front. We share the side between the houses every other weekend.
