Hey Greeks ,name you 5 favorite parts of Athens!?

My list would read like

1) Plaka ,i think the beauty of this place is unique in the world, not every citizen of this world can eat in a Tavern under Acropolis and the Parthenon right??

2) Lykavittos hill, awesome plus i live here lol

3) Kolonaki ,call me psonio but i work and i eat and drink coffee in Da capo ,all law offices are in Kolonaki square, plus all fine ladies lol

4) Glyfada, specially the summers ,the restaurants and bars and clubs there are awesome,Athens By sea!

5) Nea Filadelfia ,well only the fact that is the home of my team AEK is enough but lol also it has a lot of green, huge pavements to walk, the Alsos which is awesome to train or walk,i do not know Nea Filadelfia is an awesome suburb!

ps

yeah i know the ignored 100% the famous rich "north Suburbs" but i never had the softs spots for Kifisia neither kefalari or Halandri etc etc

    1) KIFISIA: for sure the best Athens suburb. Very green, trees everywhere, beautiful sidewalks and homes. Nea Kifisia its best part imho.

    2) MAROUSI: very modern, an important financial centre with glass-covered buildings, malls, but also cafes. It is connected with the rest of Athens with everything: suburban railway, ilektrikos, attiki odos, etc.

    3) The Area between Stadiou, Panepistimiou, and SYNTAGMA: the heart of Athens. Some beautiful neoclassical buildings too.

    4) GLYFADA: its great, especially in the summer. The beach has improved a lot recently, and there are lots of cafes, bars, etc. I just do not like the palm trees, Athens is not Miami, I wish they planted more Mediterranean trees.

    5) DROSIA: somehow similar to Nea Kifisia, it is very green and it is great to live there. However, it is a bit far from the rest of Athens.

I think in the future, other two great Athens areas will be The Faliro seafront, as they are going to build new Athens Opera and National Library there (architect: Renzo Piano!!), and Hellenikon, as the old airport is going to be transformed in a giant park: it is going to be one of the largest urban parks in Europe.

Well, since you mention a suburb, I'm going to cheat a little too.

    1) Piraeus (technically not part of Athens) - I just love it there, I don't know how to explain it. I think it's because it has the feel of a real city that's surrounded by water, much like New York (Hudson River and East River), for example. Just to let you know, I don't like Olympiakos, I'm AEK. I try to forget the connection between Olympiakos and Piraeus.

    2) Thisseio - I prefer it over Plaka because you still have great views of the Acropolis, but you also have some space to breathe and relax (because the streets are so narrow in Plaka, I feel a little "trapped" there).

    3) Mikrolimano - it's my favorite area to go have a coffee or clubbing during the summer.

    4) Kallithea - well it's where I live and do most of my work, so I have to show a little pride, right?

    5) I like several other areas, but I can't think of a fifth place that I'd actually call my "favorite".

P.S. I don't like any of the "rich"/"famous" suburbs, be they North, East, South.

    1. Thissio: I love the view of the Acropolis, I love walking with no cars beside me. Actually, I like the whole walk along Dionissiou Areopagitou st., past the Acropolis to Thissio.

    2. Pagrati: It's the place I grew up and live: I like the cafes, there are some nice taverns, the walk from my house to Kallimarmaro, some very beautiful neo-classical houses (very few, unfortunately) and the attractive area of Mets where I went to school.

    3. Zappeio, the National Garden and Syntagma: the upper half where the Parliament is situated.

    4. Marina Flisvou: I like walking there, I like the shops and the cafes and the SEA!!!

    5. I also like Marina Alimou because it is next to the sea, too, and because of Skipper's: it's beautiful in the summer, nice music, too. I like Microlimano, too.

Plaka is very nice: some amazing houses there, but I prefer it quiet, without so many people I guess.

Well, I forgot: I like Likavittos hill, too. And some beautiful bars and cafes where there is nice music in Kolonaki, Exarhia, around Klafthmonos Square and Karitsi Square, Gazi...
