What's wrong with my Toshiba power cord?
I have a toshiba satellite laptop computer that I got in July 2007. Today, the power supply to the battery just working completely. I've tried 5 different outlets in my house, unplugging and replugging the AC adapter, nothing seems to work. I know it's not the battery because before it stopped working I thought it just came unplugged somehow, and continued to web-surf.
I use my computer a lot for school, gaming, shopping, etc., so I kind of need a quick fix. Is it just a bad power cord or a more serious, internal problem?

Most likely the power cord is bad. If you need a very quick fix, you may try your local electronics store, or even Wal-Mart for a universal Laptop power cord.
Now, these are actually quite expensive at around the $100 range, but your only other option is to order an exact replacement of your power cord online.
If you want to get a replacement very fast, take your power cord around to a local electronics store or Wal-Marts electronic section and see if they have a universal cord that has the capability of matching the voltage OUTPUT listed on the bottom of your power adaptor and has the correctly sized plug.
Note that not just any universal power adaptor will do! It must be one made specifically for a laptop!

What you don't realize is the power outputs are almost all different on those computer power supply cords with the black box. Amps will be different too and sometime even the polarity of the plug. Rule of thumb, NEVER interchange those or you risk frying the computer completely. Yes there are many that fit but the plug fitting the jack is not the important part, as you now know.

It could be the male plug on back of lap top came loose from mother board or the A/C charger adapter. Plug in the charger and gently move the plug and see if it try's to connect/charge, if this does not work take the A/C adapter to a computer store and they can check it.
The most common problem is the male plug breaking loose because of rough handling or cord being jerked out from a fall or hitting cord by accident.
Hope this helps

The power supplies on the satellite laptops only last a few months. Toshiba makes the worst laptops.
