Active listening and non-directive therapy are very similar.
Neither of them attempt to provide answers for the person being counselled, they help the person reach their own solutions. Humanistic therapists use these tactics because when a person comes up with their own answers they are more likely to have 'ownership' of those solutions and act on them.
