Has anyone had a endometrial ablation or resection done?
If you have had this procedure done, please could you give me details of how long it took to do, was it an overnight stay in hospital, how if any it affected your life after, were you off from work, if so how long for, did it stop your periods or just make them lighter, how bad were your periods before you had the procedure done. Thanks for you help.

I haven't had the procedure myself, but Endometrial ablation only takes about an hour if that. Did your Doctor prescribe any drugs for you to take before this operation? The idea would be to make the lining of the womb as thin as possible, this makes the procedure more effective. Endometrial ablation is in most cases done as a day case and you are given local anaesthesia rather than GA. Sometimes GA is given though.
If you do have GA you may have to stay in overnight. You'll have some PV bleeding afterwards so you'll need to wear a sanitary towel. In most cases you can go home as soon as the effects of anaesthetic have worn off and you feel ready.
Try not to use tampons for at least a month after the procedure to minimise the risk of infection. It can take between 3-6 months before you can tell if the operation has been successful. Most women find that they have lighter periods, some cease having periods altogether.
You will likely need pain relief afterwards.
