Anyone else have a baby who talks to themselves at night?

My almost 5 month old has started waking up way too early talking to herself. She isn't crying but of course it comes through the monitor and she is just talking. Any ideas what to do? Should i just turn off the monitor because she is not upset...

Update:

I don't really mind her talking it is just that my poor husband has to sleep for work. I am a SAHM so it is not a big deal to me! I think it is so freaking cute just not at 2:30am!

Your baby is doing really good if she is already babbling at 5 months. Just let her be. She is practicing with her words and sounds. If you want to turn off the monitor that is fine, you will hear her if she gets upset. Or you could just lay back and listen to the sweet "stories" your dear one is telling you or the wall or the animals in the room. My 1yr old wakes up about 5:30 everyday and talks to the bunny in her bed. The more she practices the quicker she will learn her sounds and may start talking earlier.

It is such sweet music to hear our childrens voices.

  • my daughter is also 5 months old and has began waking up and talking to herself. When she wakes up from a nap I will just let her be until I hear her start getting frustrated. Then I go in and get her. Her crib is in my room still so in the morning she wakes up and she wakes up and starts doing this screeching thing. Its really funny!! Anyways I wouldn't turn off the monitor though because she will end up getting frustrated. I would turn the sound down some. Make sure you can still hear it though.

For crying out loud she's a female it comes natural to talk and talk and talk. LOL She has found out a new thing and likes hearing her voice. There is nothing to worry about and don't turn the monitor off there are very few things in life as enjoyable to listen to as a baby talking and giggling that is until they start asking why all the time. lol

Enjoy your daughter she will grow up much faster than you think and one day you will miss having her at home.

My 3 month old just started doing this... she will just lay in her crib and talk and talk and talk so we just let her be and we will semi-fall back asleep but its really cute because shes still in our room her crib across the room but she can see me and when she gets to talking I will wake up and see her smiling at me and then she will just keep talking... I say let her keep talking turn down the monitor (not off) and just wait until she gets upset!

My daughter would do this all the time around that age. I would just sit and listen .. I thought it was very sweet! Just let her be .. I would lay in bed until she cried out for me .. I don't know why you would want to turn it off, but maybe just turn it down that way you can go back to sleep and still hear her when she cries.

my son does too... he will be 5 months old this 17th...early in the morning around 4, he used to wake up and start talking by himself... what is the difference between u & me is he sleep with us... so everytime he talks, me and my husband wake up as well and listen to him, we are really happy to hear it...it takes only for 10-20 mins. afterwards he will cry...then i started play with him...sometimes its so tiring, waking up so early just to play with my son...but happy moments with him should not be miss..both me & hubby working at day, when we reach home at night he is already sleeping, so that is the only time we can bond with him only at every 4 am.... godd luck for both us!

  • my 4 month old doesn't talk to herself but she always talks to me when she is in need of something. she will talk for up to 15 minutes before crying -if she needs something. otherwise we will converse for up to 30 min.please don't turn off the monitor she may need something one of these times and you want to show her that you know the difference between her entertaining herself and her needing you.

Every one of my kids woke early and talked to themselves. It's nothing to worry about and there's nothing you should do but listen - and be delighted with it!

Don't blink: before you know it she'll be a teenager, and you'll be wishing you had those "talking to herself" moments back.

My two year old talks to himself at night. Sometimes he will just wake up and whisper "mommy" then go back to sleep. One time i woke up to him saying "no livvy, no livvy" (livvy is his sister, and he pretty much follows her around saying no all day. lol)

I would turn down the montor if the talking is disturbing me, just until she is done.

Yes, my 10 month old sat up in his bed a couple of nights ago and said "dada" and then laid right back down and fell asleep.
