Is Maddie too much of a nickname to be a real name?

I really like the name Maddie. I think it's cute. But I wonder if it's too much of a nickname and not so much of a real name for when she gets older. So I'm going back and forth between Maddie (with Lynne as a middle name) and Madelyn. My daughter's name is Emma Leigh and Maddie Lynne seems to fit better. But I keep getting comments that- Madelyn is better for a grown-up. What's your vote? Maddie or Madelyn?

I think Maddie is fine. Why give your child a long name that you will never use. My friend named her daughter Shy which would normally be short for Chyenne, but she said she would never call her Chyenne. I think it's cute. Thats like naming your kid Mathew if you are only going to call him Matt....Why? I just don't understand.

Maddy Lynne is perfectly acceptable if you like the name, although I love the name Madelyn so I would always choose that, but it's up to you

    Good luck

I think Madelyn because you can still call her Maddie as a nickname and I'm sure her friends will to. But yes, most names that end in a y or ie are usually names for little kids or babies, they don't really suit them for when tey are adults, names like Lily, suzie, Rosey. U know names like that. I really love the name Maddie but I think it suites better for a nick name!

Hope I helped and that I didn't offend u or anything!

I have a niece named Madison and she has been called Maddie ever since she was born and she loves being called Maddie. Maddie is now 11.

  • I think Maddie Lynne is a very nice name and you're right it does go with her siblings name very well.

another name that can be Maddie for short is Maddison :)
