How to reduce GIF file size in GIMP??

Hey

I have just spent some time learning how to animate an image that I want to use as my main image for my bebo skin. Everything went to plan but I have a problem when uploading it to bebo :(.

It says my file size is 194151bytes and the maximum required is 60000bytes.

Therefore, my file is 134151bytes above the required amount.

I am using GIMP image editor to do my images so I am wondering if you know how to reduce the file size when I am saving it as a GIF. I know how to do it with JPEG but if I use that my image wont animate.

Please help because I want to improve my skins.

Thanks

Dee xXx

Update:

Animated GIF files are a bit different than normal JPEG files, so reducing it as a whole will not work.

You will need to make each "frame" smaller by themselves, and then combine them together into an animated GIF.

Using less amounts of many colors will also reduce the file size of a GIF. The more large areas are the same color, the smaller the GIF file is.

Download a free version of GIMP on this site: [link]

GIMP is a great free software you can use for a lot of graphic tasks like retouching photo, image and photo editing). I strongly believe GIMP is the best free tool for photo editing available online nowadays. It's as good and as powerful as photoshop but GIMP can be use also used by a lot of professionals.

Hi There, The difference has to be the overall resolution the photo has been saved in. Try opening the first pic in Gimp and saving it with a different name at a lower resolution using the same width and height. That should work, Al

    File>Save As>Choose GIF

A dialog box will come up, asking you about the file size. Reduce it to about 50%

    Hope that helps! :)

Just use either of these two free online animation editors to do it for you until you figure GIMP out. LOL

    FREE online photo editors:

    http://www.blibs.com/editor/ (Animation Tools)

    http://www.gifworks.com/image_editor.html (Animation: GIF format only)

Second one might be quicker and easier for you.
