I got my teeth cleaned today and now my teeth are sensitive to cold drinks. Is that a bad sign?

Got somewhat of a deep cleaning. In July I am having a deep scale cleaning. Dentist says the cleaning I got today would help alot when I got back in. Is there a reason why my teeth are sensitive now?

The tartar was protecting the base of your teeth from feeling the cold. Just use a strong fluoride toothpaste and let your teeth remineralize for a week or two. It will go away.

Also, your gums are sensitive from a deep cleaning. Take some advil to help them out with swelling.

You can also get a higher fluoride toothpaste from your dentist if you ask for it. And you can use it just like a "fluoride treatment" if you want to. (Remember fluoride treatments from when you were a kid?) It helps me to do that after a cleaning.

If all else fails, start using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth (Sensodyne, etc..).

    Nope. Totally normal.

The tooth surface has tiny little pores called dentinal tubules and they cause sensitivity when people bleach.

Well these are usually covered up by the plaque we have on our teeth. Now that you've gotten your teeth cleaned, these tubules are uncovered and may be a little sensitive.

Don't worry, it goes away in a couple of days. To speed up the process, when you brush your teeth tonight, leave the toothpaste on for a few minutes without rinsing. The fluoride in your toothpaste will help block the tubules and reduce your sensitivity.

They are sensitive because of the cleaning. It is probably nothing to worry about. Just lay off the really cold or really hot foods for a day or two.
