EDIT: HOW DO I GET MY DOG TO STOP BARKING AT INAPPROPRIATE THINGS?
every monday morning we have to take the trash to the curb for pick up and my female shar pei will always bark in a high pitch tone its like a bark/scream. this also happens when we mow the front lawn. What types of training techniques would i be able to use to stop this behavior? i do not want her to just stop barking even if there is a threat i just want her to stop barking at her owners

I had to laugh when I saw the first title - I thought - you have to be the ONLY person in the world who wants his dog to bark inappropriately. :o)
I just answered this for two other people, so please forgive the cut and paste:
When she barks, get up and see what she is barking at.
If she is barking at something you do not want her to bark at, tell her to stop.
If she keeps barking when you tell her to stop, give her a sharp poke in the neck or shoulder with your finger and tell her to stop again.
If she ignores both the verbal and the physical warning, then fill a spray bottle with water, tell her to stop, give her a poke and tell her to stop, and then spray her. The spray will shock her and get her attention, so she will listen when you tell her to stop.
Do not just spray her, go through the routine, because you want her to eventually listen when you just tell her to stop barking.
I have five dogs (seven with the foster dogs) and if they are barking, all I have to do is look out the window and tap on the glass. They all shut up and come back to the porch.
Sometimes all I have to do is walk up to the window. They see me and stop, because they know they are not supposed to be barking :o)

teaching dogs takes a lot of patience... if you dont want her to bark at you you have to say "no" (or anyother word) in a firm serious term and slightly hit the dog on the rump with a magazine (it has to be completely painless and dont use ur hand) then everytime she barks at inappropriate things u must do this if u dont she might get confused and not stop
