Poll: How many USA made items can you find in the room you are in?

I went shopping with a friend who will only buy US made items if he can help it. We went shopping for a Phillies hat and new sneakers. He looked at EVERY tag and did not buy the hat and shoes he liked the best, but he DID buy the US made ones.

To my dismay - it was VERY hard to find US made items. Out of about 100 hats and shoes, we found 1 style of hat and 2 style of shoes. (New Balance is the only sneaker company that has a US factory but most are made over seas.)

It is very sad to see how many items are not made here!

I know it costs more to buy US made items. BUT if we bring the jobs back here. There will be more jobs, people could demand more higher salaries, and . . . . .

How many items can you find?????

Walmart taught us that 'cheaper is better', when in reality 'cheaper means made in China'. Look at the Big Three automakers. For years they've slowly been sending production to overseas job markets for cheaper labor rates and getting inferior parts in return.

Compare the lifestyles of the 1950's and 1960's with today's "Global Market". Every house had an American car in the garage, mom stayed home and raised the family (great for her for burning her bra and getting some independence). My point here is only ONE income was needed to make ends meet. A banker carefully looked over the finances and determined if someone could really afford a bigger car or house. Nowadays, the banks encourage you to have 20 credit cards so they can raise the interest rates on you and drive you to the poor house. Search and carefully read the words to Tennessee Ernie Ford's song "Sixteen Tons" and see how this oldie is even more true today.

Something you still see from the past: gas tax. Ever wonder why it says '$2.269'? The "9/10th" was the only tax on gasoline at one time--now it is over 50 cents per gallon! Big government for ya!

Golden parachutes for CEO's sending jobs overseas is a disgrace.

Kudo's for your friend for buying things only made in the USA!

Hello, Hello Penny makes bloody nice donuts. You rang!

It is a changing world and I am afraid it has been like that for a long time. Made in Japan, Macau and Hong Kong Then came Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, followed on their heals by Made in China.

The only thing or item made in America, Britain-England, New Zealand and Australia in my computer den is a couple of old die-cast toy cars and trucks and the rest come for those other counties Viz above. Although, lucky me, almost all of my furniture and wall displays are made in Australia with Australian timber by me, apart from my computer and chair that I am sitting on.

My riding boots are made in Ballarat and the rest of the clothes I am wearing, well you may have guessed it, made in bloody China.

It is like finding gold if you find something made in your own country there my darling friends over the deep blue oceans of wonder.

Yes, this is my concern, too! I don't understand why we buy so many Chinese products and eventually hurt our own economy. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT AMERICANS NEED TO THINK ABOUT.

Please spread the words around. We need to protect our economy. Please see if you can answer my questions related to this same issue.

Before you shop at Walmart the next time, STOP AND THINK.

    Try Canada.

There seems to be a lot more US made stuff here than Canadian. It is very, very hard to find Canadian stuff.

  • Sadly, I think I am the only thing in my room made in the US.
