I may be biased on this subject. My ex (HISS) was an RN.

I've worked in Hospital Maintenance ever since I got out of the Navy and have to give most of the nurses I have met credit for caring about the job they do and having the intelligence to stick out a degree program in college. Intelligence does not necessarily mean street smarts. I have met a few who are little more than academic thermometers and have no concept of the real world outside of the ward they are assigned to.

I was a 91B10 Medical Specialist in the military and was in contact with many many very intelligent RN's .... of course I also had to put up with a few that belonged in the Mental Ward as well...

IMO most of them do most of the work- the doctors usually come in and takes over when it's pretty much done.

The exception would be the dumbasarock RN who sent me home when I was in labor with my 4th child. I had her 4 hours later- only barely making it back to the hospital in time!

    my mom :)

    i give her a 12

she was passionate bout her job not like most RN's that are in the business for just money . she actually cared for people .

once when we went camping a few years ago, a little kid burned himself with the campfire fire real bad and the parents were calling the ambulance, but the nearest hospital was 20 miles away so luckily my mom had a first aid kit with us and treated the little boy there .

Quite a few. And LVN's too. However, not saying that some - including a LOT of administrators - don't have some attitude problems, but usually can't fault the smarts or skills.

I've met several in my profession that were as dumb as a box of rocks. They may be books smart...but they shouldn't be anywhere near a patient. Push pills, meds and chart...while the techs do most of the work.

there are few that actually jump in there for the good of the patient.

A lot actually, all the nurses at my doctor's office are spectacular and they always make you smile even if you're really nervous or in a lot of pain.

Urgent care clinic nurses.. now that's a different story :/
